About Yoga Teacher Training: Level 1 (200-Hour)
This is a rigorous residential course that follows a structured daily routine from 05:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Beyond your Asana and Pranayama classes, you will participate in one hour of daily Karma Yoga—community service tasks such as kitchen duty or library maintenance—which is essential to grounding your practice in selfless action.
Our Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training (YTTC) is designed for those seeking a profound personal transformation, whether you intend to teach professionally or simply wish to deepen your understanding of yoga. We follow the Sivananda lineage, focusing on the five points of yoga: Proper Exercise (Asana), Proper Breathing (Pranayama), Proper Relaxation (Savasana), Proper Diet (Sattvic), and Positive Thinking & Meditation.
The Curriculum
We provide a comprehensive curriculum that satisfies the Yoga Alliance RYS 200 requirements. You will spend 200+ hours covering:
- Asana & Anatomy: Mastery of the 12 basic postures and their variations, taught with correct alignment and modification.
- Pranayama: Systematic practice of breathing techniques to control the vital energy (Prana).
- Vedanta Philosophy: Introduction to the timeless wisdom of the Upanishads and the nature of the Self.
- Teaching Methodology: Practical sessions where you learn to structure a class, adjust students, and communicate effectively.
Ashram Life
Living in our Amboli ashram is an integral part of the training. The environment is designed to remove distractions and support your focus. You will adhere to a strict daily regimen including early morning Satsang, meditation, and two balanced Sattvic vegetarian meals. Alcohol, tobacco, and non-vegetarian food are prohibited. This structure may be challenging, but it is exactly this discipline that fosters clarity and sustained personal growth.
Certification & Requirements
Upon successful completion, including the final examination, you will be awarded an RYS 200 certificate, which allows you to register as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) with Yoga Alliance USA. No prior teaching experience or high flexibility is required; we only ask for a sincere desire to learn and a commitment to the ashram’s lifestyle.
