Hands-on Cookery and Practical Life Skills
Cooking is a multi-sensory learning experience. From making aloo tikki to assembling parfaits, children practice sequencing, fine motor control, and the joy of sharing results with family.
As part of a cookery activity, our children followed a recipe to make delicious Aloo Tikki. They practiced measuring, mixing, and shaping, and were so proud to share the final dish with their families.

About Cookery: Hands-on Kitchen Skills
When a child carefully shapes an aloo tikki or layers ingredients for a fruit parfait, they are not just making a snack. They are refining fine motor control, learning mathematical sequencing, and building the physical confidence to handle real-world tasks independently.
At Siksha Montessori, we treat cookery as a fundamental part of our Practical Life curriculum. It is rarely about the dish itself, but rather the process. By following a recipe, children practice step-by-step logic, measuring ingredients, and precise hand movements. Whether they are preparing aloo tikki or making a fruit parfait, the activity requires deep focus, patience, and careful execution.
This deliberate work builds the foundational skills needed for more complex academic pursuits, like writing and geometry, later on. We ensure the environment is safe, accessible, and structured, encouraging this natural curiosity. It is about taking a task from start to finish, which fosters a profound sense of accomplishment and independence in every child. We keep our groups small, ensuring each child has the space to explore these life skills at their own pace.
