Our Montessori Philosophy: How We Follow the Child
We believe in creating a space where curiosity leads the way. See how our child-led approach helps kids grow into independent, confident learners.
Dr. Maria Montessori, the founder of our educational method, holding a child. Her philosophy, centered on the idea to "follow the child," is the guiding principle for everything we do at Siksha.
A throwback to a day in our classroom. This video shows the prepared environment in action, with children choosing their own work, concentrating deeply, and interacting respectfully. This is the heart of the Montessori method.
About Our Guiding Philosophy
In our classrooms, we do not rush or force a strict schedule. Instead, we observe your child. Whether they are drawn to the Pink Tower for sensorial work or practicing practical life skills like pouring water, they choose their own work. We are here to guide that focus, not interrupt it, which builds deep concentration and genuine joy in learning.
Maria Montessori famously said, 'Follow the child.' In our BTM Layout and S.G. Palya branches, this is not just a concept, it is how we run our day. We prepare the environment, not the curriculum, so your child can explore materials that match their current developmental stage.
How This Works in Our Classroom
- Mixed-Age Grouping: Children aged 2.5 to 6 years learn from each other. Older students consolidate their knowledge by helping younger peers, while younger children learn through observation.
- The Prepared Environment: Everything is accessible. From low shelves where materials are kept to child-sized furniture, the environment invites independence. Your child does not wait for a teacher to hand them a task. They choose it, work with it, and return it to the shelf when done.
- Teacher as a Guide: We do not stand at a blackboard and lecture. We are observers. We intervene only when necessary to show a child how to use a specific material, then we step back. This fosters the deep concentration that is a hallmark of the Montessori method.
Practical Learning
We do not teach for the sake of tests. Practical life activities like buttoning, folding, and pouring water are the foundation of coordination and focus. These are not chores. They are the essential building blocks that lead to confidence in math, language, and geometry later on. By treating the child with respect and allowing them to master their environment, we help them become confident, capable individuals.
