Automotive styling is trickier than it looks. You need clothes that do not bunch up when the talent sits in a driver's seat, and fabrics that catch the light through a car window without looking flat. When I style for car ads, I am not just picking pretty outfits. I am thinking about how the fabric moves, how it sits against the upholstery, and how it helps tell the story of the person driving that specific car.
In automotive advertising, the car is the main character, but the styling provides the soul. My process starts by breaking down the narrative. Is this a rugged family trip, a high-end corporate commute, or a young couple's weekend getaway?
For a brand like Skoda, we aimed for effortless elegance. That meant selecting breathable, sophisticated textures that looked comfortable during long drives. When working with Maruti Suzuki, the focus shifted to relatable, everyday chic, using pops of color that stood out against the car’s interior without clashing.
The practicalities are just as important as the aesthetic. We run fittings specifically to test how garments drape when the actor is seated. We ensure that colors complement the paint job and that there is no distracting clutter in the clothing silhouette. I manage the on-set styling kit, including garment steamers and pins, to fix those tiny wrinkles that only a camera lens picks up. Whether we are shooting in the heat of a city or on a scenic mountain road, my team and I stay on set to ensure continuity across every take, from the first look to the final drive.
