About Sufiyana Shaam: Soulful Ghazals & Qawwali
When we perform a Sufi set, it is not just about the volume; it is about the 'Baithak' vibe. We arrange the seating and the acoustics to keep the connection between the artist and the audience alive, mixing classic ghazals with Urdu shayari that fits the mood of your specific ceremony, whether it is a small family dinner or a grand reception.
My musical journey is rooted in the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana, and this cluster represents the heart of that training. When you book a 'Sufiyana Shaam', you are not just getting a background performance; you are getting a curated flow of music that responds to the room.
We start with the soul—classic ghazals that set the mood—and can build up to powerful Qawwalis by legends like Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. With my band, Murshid, we offer a range of setups:
- Acoustic Baithak: A 4-5 piece ensemble featuring Tabla and Harmonium, perfect for chura ceremonies or intimate pre-wedding dinners where the lyrics need to be heard clearly.
- Full Sufi Ensemble: A larger configuration with live percussion and keyboards for bigger reception stages that still require a soulful, devotional atmosphere.
We don't use backing tracks. Every dholak beat and keyboard chord is played live, which allows us to switch from a quiet, seated poetry session to a high-energy Punjabi Sufi fusion track if the energy of the room shifts. If you want a specific wedding anthem like 'Dulhe Ka Sehra' performed with live orchestration, we ensure the arrangement matches the grandeur of your entry.
We perform across Delhi NCR and are comfortable traveling for destination weddings. Because this setup relies on specific acoustics, I recommend discussing your venue's sound requirements with us during the initial call so we can ensure the 'Mehfil' sounds exactly as intended.
