We believe in the spirit of 'train anywhere'. Sometimes, you need to step out of the gym to truly find your flow.

About Training Beyond the Dojo

Taking our practice to the park changes your game in ways the gym cannot. Without the consistent bounce of puzzle mats, you are forced to be much more intentional with your base, balance, and weight distribution. It builds a level of functional awareness that keeps you sharp, regardless of where you are training.

When we take our grappling and wrestling practice to local parks, we aren't just changing the scenery. We are stripping back the technical comfort of the dojo. In the gym, mats provide safety and consistency. Outdoors, you have to be mindful of your surroundings—the ground might be slightly uneven or grassy, which shifts your focus to stability and core engagement.

The 'Train Anywhere' Mindset

This approach isn't about ignoring the gym. It is about understanding that martial arts, like wrestling and BJJ, are about movement efficiency. When you practice bicep ties or arm drags on grass, you realize how much you rely on gym equipment for 'free' stability. This forces you to engage your muscles differently and find your center without assistance.

Keeping it Safe and Technical

Even when we train outdoors, safety is our rule number one. We don't do high-impact throws or dangerous takedowns in the park. Instead, we focus on:

  • Low-impact takedowns: Controlled movements where you learn to guide your partner safely to the ground.
  • Technique Breakdown: Slow-motion drilling of bicep ties and positioning.
  • Positional Games: Short rounds that emphasize control rather than explosive, unpredictable force.
