About No-Gi Grappling: Fast, Dynamic, and Raw
In our No-Gi sessions, we prioritize flow over brute force, which means you will spend as much time on wrestling takedowns as you do on ground submissions. If you are new, you will find partners here who are happy to slow down and walk you through the mechanics of a sweep or an escape, because we believe the whole team gets better when everyone understands the mechanics behind the move.
In No-Gi, you cannot rely on collar grips or sleeve friction to hold your opponent. This forces you to focus on underhooks, pummeling, and tighter positional control. At our HSR Layout studio, our sessions mix wrestling fundamentals with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, teaching you how to dictate where the fight goes. Whether you are working on a single-leg takedown or chaining submissions from side control, the emphasis remains on timing and body leverage.
We keep our mats clean and the atmosphere focused. We often have visiting practitioners drop in for a roll, which keeps the training dynamic and unpredictable. If you are new to this, expect a steep learning curve in your first few weeks, but stick with the 7:15 AM crew and you will see your reflexes sharpen. We do not just teach moves; we foster a space where seasoned competitors and first-timers share the mat with mutual respect. Come prepared to sweat, roll, and learn the mechanics of the game.
