Thematic Dance Productions and Stage Performances

We create stage productions that blend classical techniques with contemporary storytelling. From traditional jugalbandis to performances exploring modern themes like mental health, we bring classical roots into a new dialogue.

A moment of powerful imagery from our production 'Sakhi', which combines dance, theatre, and digital art to explore the path to understanding and empathy for mental health.

These are scenes from 'Sakhi - Seeking the friend within'. Our choreography here uses a mix of contemporary movement and classical Indian dance techniques to portray complex emotional journeys.

This still is from our short film 'Vishpala', a story from the Rig Veda. The production combined dance with the martial art of Kalaripayattu to tell a story of a warrior queen.

We were invited to conduct a workshop and perform at IIT Jammu. This poster captures the blend of Indian classical and contemporary dance that we shared with the students.

Taking a bow after the premiere of 'Sakhi' at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. It is always a privilege to share our work and engage with an appreciative audience.

This is the title animation for 'Sakhi', designed to evoke the theme of finding the friend within. We believe every element of a production contributes to its story.

Behind the scenes during the creation of 'Sakhi'. This short clip shows our process of exploring movement and character to build the narrative for our mental health awareness production.

About this collection

Our performance work often starts with a single question: how can we use the language of Kathak and Bharatanatyam to talk about modern life? We do not just perform, we craft a movement vocabulary where the precision of tatkar and hastas meets theater and digital art to create a full sensory experience.

Our Approach to Production

At Rhythmotion, a performance is an opportunity to explore a narrative beyond the boundaries of traditional stage setups. We do not believe in separating the dancer from the story. Our production 'Sakhi: The Friend Within' is a perfect example of this. By integrating contemporary movement with classical Indian dance forms, we explored the nuances of mental health, trauma, and the internal dialogue of the human psyche.

The Vocabulary of Movement

Our stage work draws from a vast technical foundation:

  • Classical Roots: We rely on the core techniques of Kathak and Bharatanatyam, including the rhythmic footwork of tatkar, the complexity of chakkars, and the emotional depth of abhinaya.
  • Modern Fusion: We incorporate elements of Kalaripayattu, contemporary movement, and even martial arts, as seen in our work 'Vishpala', which utilized these styles to depict a warrior queen from the Rig Veda.
  • Multi-disciplinary Elements: We collaborate with lighting designers, musicians, and digital artists to ensure the environment supports the choreography, rather than just providing a backdrop.
