Classical Dance and Creative Movement Classes
Discover a space where traditional Bharatanatyam and Kathak rhythms meet modern fusion, welcoming all ages and skill levels to explore the joy of movement.
We believe dance is a conversation between artists. Here, my daughter Alar and I share the stage, performing a Jugalbandi that weaves together the distinct rhythms and grace of Bharatanatyam and Kathak.
A glimpse into the energy of our Kathak-Bollywood fusion course. Here, Alar guides students through a choreography, focusing on blending the technical spins of Kathak with fun, accessible movements.
Dance is a legacy passed down through generations. This is a quiet moment of 'abhinaya' or expressive storytelling, shared between mother and daughter, exploring a traditional Kathak piece together.
Our dance productions often explore deeper themes. This is a powerful moment from our theatrical piece 'Sakhi', which uses contemporary and classical dance to explore the journey of mental wellness.
The 'chakkars' or spins are a thrilling part of Kathak. This clip from Alar's solo performance showcases the speed, control, and grace that we cultivate in our advanced training.
It was an honor to perform for the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations and be felicitated by dignitaries, including actor Yash. We are grateful for opportunities to share our art on such respected platforms.
This is a performance of 'Kasthuri Tilakam', a devotional piece where I use 'abhinaya' to tell stories of Krishna. The vocals are by my mother, Rama, connecting three generations of our family through art.
About this collection
Rhythmotion is a studio where dance is our daily practice, from the classical nuances of Kathak to the energy of Bollywood fusion. Whether you are in our Rustam Bagh studio or joining via our hybrid sessions, we prioritize technique—from hastas to posture—so you build strength alongside your repertoire.
A Space for Every Dancer
At Rhythmotion, dance is for everyone. We believe that whether you are five or fifty, the joy of movement remains the same. Our classes are designed to be accessible, stripping away the intimidation often associated with classical training while maintaining rigorous standards.
Our Approach to Training
We blend the structure of traditional Indian dance with practical modern needs. Our curriculum focuses on:
- Technique: We break down complex movements, from the tatkar (footwork) of Kathak to the precise gestures of Bharatanatyam.
- Body Conditioning: We don't just teach steps; we condition the body. Using elements of yoga, pilates, and kalaripayattu, we ensure students develop the core strength and stamina needed to dance injury-free.
- Expression (Abhinaya): The heart of our teaching lies in storytelling. We encourage students to use their face and body to convey narratives, making the dance a universal language.
Join Our Community
We offer flexibility for busy lives. With our hybrid model, you can choose to learn in-person at our Bangalore studio or connect online. We also hold an annual showcase, Chalana, which provides a platform for students to perform on stage, apply what they have learned, and celebrate their growth. Whether you are looking for a casual weekend workshop to pick up a routine or a three-month intensive certificate course to deepen your craft, we have a place for you.
Rhythmotion
I am Chitra, and dance is my daily riyaaz. Alongside my mother, Rama, and daughter, Alar, I lead Rhythmotion as a space where art is a conversation. We teach not just to perfect a spin or a step, but to help you find your own rhythm.
