Kathak-Bollywood Fusion Certificate Course
Experience the grace of classical Kathak movements blended with the rhythmic joy of Bollywood in our structured 3-month certification course.
We are excited to announce new batches for our semi-classical and Kathak-Bollywood fusion courses. These sessions are perfect for anyone looking to start their dance journey with us.
Day 1 of our fusion course is all about setting a foundation of basic postures and movements. We create a welcoming space where every student, regardless of experience, feels comfortable to begin.
On Day 2, we build on the basics, introducing simple choreographic sequences. The focus is on enjoying the music and movement, and building confidence together as a group.
By Day 3, students begin to learn seated expressive movements and coordinated group choreography. We break down each step to ensure everyone can follow along and find their rhythm.
Here on Day 4, you can see our students practicing hand gestures, or 'hastas', that are fundamental to storytelling in Indian dance, adapted for our fusion choreography.
Day 5 focuses on integrating footwork and spins. Alar demonstrates a 'chakkar' (spin), a key element of Kathak that we introduce in a simplified way for our fusion students.
In this clip from Day 6, we work on 'abhinaya' or facial expressions to convey the story of the song. The lyrics describe a gopi carrying a pot of yogurt, and the movements reflect that narrative.
About this collection
In this course, we move beyond just learning steps. We focus on how Kathak’s tatkar (footwork) and abhinaya (expression) actually transform a simple Bollywood routine. You will learn to hold a posture, engage your core, and use your eyes to tell the song's story, just like we do in classical training. It is the perfect bridge if you have always wanted to dance with grace but felt intimidated by the technicality of pure classical forms.
Our 12-Week Approach
We designed this certificate course for those who want structure without the pressure of a multi-year classical commitment. Over 24 sessions, we build your foundation from the ground up.
- Months 1-2: Technique & Basics: We start with the fundamentals. You will learn the correct posture, basic tatkar (footwork), and the essential hastas (hand gestures). We use these to break down the rhythm and alignment needed for every spin and step.
- Month 3: Choreography & Expression: Once the technique is set, we move into the choreography. This is where we apply the abhinaya (storytelling through expression) to the lyrics of a song. You aren't just memorizing moves; you are learning how to emote and connect with the music.
Why Choose This Course?
