Artistic Expressions & Performance Projects
We believe dance is a story waiting to be told. From our traditional Bharathanatyam and Kathak roots to our contemporary fusion projects here in Bangalore, this is how we interpret movement.
A solo moment on stage during a Kathak performance. This portrait captures the elegance of the costume and the expressive hand gestures, or mudras, used in storytelling.
The making of "Tarang," our first Kathak dance feature. This video shows the concept coming to life with our talented dancers, musicians, and production team.
A spontaneous dance in nature. Sometimes the best moments are unplanned, just feeling the rhythm and moving freely.
A black and white portrait capturing a moment of shringara, or romantic love, from a performance. The expressive power of the face and eyes is central to Indian classical dance.
A solo portrait from a stage show, with the stage lights creating a beautiful aura. Every performance is an opportunity to connect with the art on a personal level.
Another solo portrait from a performance, highlighting the joy and confidence that comes from being on stage.
A duplicate of a previous image, this black and white portrait captures a moment of shringara, or romantic love, from a performance.
About this collection
When we approach a creative project, whether it is a solo portrait or a complex ensemble piece like 'Tarang', we focus intently on the nuance of 'Angashuddhi' (body geometry) and the narrative arc. It is never just about getting the steps right; we obsess over the emotion—the 'shringara' or the rhythm—to ensure it truly communicates with the audience across the stage lights.
Our journey as the 'dancing sisters' in Bangalore is rooted in the Guru-Shishya tradition, but we love experimenting with the boundaries of what classical dance can be.
Tradition Meets Fusion
While our foundation is deep-set in the rigid, beautiful structures of Bharathanatyam and Kathak, we believe that art must breathe and evolve. In this gallery, you will see snippets of our fusion experiments. We take the technical foundations—the 'Adavus' for Bharathanatyam or the 'Tatkar' for Kathak—and weave them into stories that resonate with modern viewers. Whether it is a thematic production like 'Durge' or a spontaneous performance in nature, our goal is to maintain the soul of the dance while keeping the presentation fresh.
The Performance Process
Every performance you see here, especially our larger productions, involves meticulous planning. From the choreography and music composition (often collaborating with local musicians) to the stage blocking and makeup application, we handle it all. We believe the stage is where the dancer truly comes alive. Our performances are not just displays of skill; they are invitations for the audience to connect with our heritage.
Our Studio in JP Nagar
This artistic energy doesn't just happen on stage; it starts in our studio. We maintain a space with professional sprung wooden flooring to ensure every dancer, from a beginner in our foundation batches to an advanced student, can practice safely. If you have ever felt the pull of dance, we encourage you to step into our studio and experience this balance of discipline, respect, and pure joy for yourself.
