I conceptualize and choreograph thematic group productions that blend traditional Bharatanatyam with modern stagecraft and live music.

About this collection

For me, a thematic production is never just about the steps. It is a dialogue between the dancer, the live orchestra, and the audience. Whether we are exploring the emotional depth of Tyagaraja’s compositions or a contemporary social theme, my focus remains on synchronizing the movement with the narrative arc to ensure the story is felt, not just seen.

When I choreograph for an ensemble, my priority is the stage geometry and the collective energy of the dancers. It requires more than technical precision, as it demands that every member of the group understands the logic behind the movement.

My process typically involves:

  • Conceptualization: We begin by identifying the narrative thread, be it mythology, philosophy, or social commentary.
  • Structural Design: This involves blocking, formation planning, and designing entries and exits to keep the visual flow dynamic.
  • Musical Synergy: I always insist on working with a live music team. The interaction between the Mridangam, flute, and vocals with the dancers' footwork is the heartbeat of the production.

In my work with the Chithkala ensemble, such as in Tyāgarāja Hṛt Sadana, we focus on creating an immersive experience for the rasikas. I handle everything from the rhythmic patterns to lighting cues and costume color palettes, ensuring the production is theatrically cohesive. If you are looking to curate a thematic production or a group performance, I am happy to guide you through the creative journey.
