Tropical Maximalism for one8 Commune
For Virat Kohli’s one8 Commune, we composed a narrative of tropical maximalism, bridging vibrant day-time leisure with high-energy nocturnal resonance through tactile, rhythmic design.
The iconic pour bar, with its monolithic marble tables and a dramatic, shell-like rattan chandelier. The mirrored ceiling reflects the scene, amplifying the energy and maximalist aesthetic of the space.

The main dining area, where a checkerboard floor and a ceiling of woven rattan create a rich, textured environment. The space is designed to feel both communal and intimate.

A long view of the space, where the repetition of wooden arches and the patterned floor create a strong sense of rhythm and direction.

About one8 Commune: Tropical Maximalism
In one8 Commune, the bar serves as the project’s fulcrum. We used monolithic marble and woven rattan to construct a visual pivot that draws the eye, while the checkerboard floor provides a rhythmic foundation for the entire spatial narrative. Every material choice here is deliberate, ensuring that the transition from a serene daytime cafe to a vibrant evening social hub feels both fluid and inevitable.
Tropical maximalism is not an aesthetic choice but a spatial dialogue. We approached the one8 Commune brief by layering textures and volumes to orchestrate a sensory journey. By integrating Afro-prints with traditional teakwood and rattan, we created an atmosphere that feels grounded yet exotic.
Our hospitality design process relies on psychological zoning. We mapped the energy flow—from high-energy communal bar areas to secluded, intimate nooks—using light and acoustic layering to define these boundaries without physical obstructions. Custom-engineered lighting, including our signature rattan chandeliers, dictates the mood shifts between daylight and nocturnal energy.
This project demonstrates how we interpret brand DNA, translating a personality into a physical experience through structural rhythm and material fidelity. Every element is curated to facilitate a deeper engagement with the space. We prioritize site-specific interventions, ensuring that our architectural language remains responsive to the unique context of each venue. Through this layering of materials—marble for permanence, rattan for warmth, and brass for luxury—we transform static structures into dynamic environments that linger in the memory of the visitor.
Renesa
We are a Delhi-based studio focused on crafting architectural narratives rather than mere interiors. Our work for one8 Commune represents our pursuit of spatial depth, where every material is chosen to evoke a specific memory or feeling. We design spaces that converse with their users, ensuring the architecture remains as dynamic as the brand itself.
