A serene exploration of Japandi design where travertine, warm wood, and rhythmic light converge to create a tranquil, sensory-driven coffee sanctuary in New Delhi.

A sun-drenched corner of the cafe, where the light streams in, creating a perfect spot for a morning coffee. The design is clean and simple, allowing the quality of the light and materials to speak for themselves.

The main seating area and bar, defined by a consistent language of wood paneling and minimalist furniture. The space is designed to be a calm, uncluttered retreat from the city.

The clean, symmetrical lines of the banquette seating. The neutral upholstery and warm wood create a soothing and harmonious palette, characteristic of the Japandi aesthetic.

About QBF Coffee: A Study in Japandi Warmth

The spatial configuration relies on a precise calibration of light and material density, where fluted glass partitions and custom joinery modulate the flow of movement. By integrating acoustic-softening upholstery with the raw, earthen tactility of travertine tiles, we composed a sanctuary that silences the urban clamor, allowing the ritual of coffee to become the primary focus.

Our approach to the QBF project was not merely to assemble a cafe, but to orchestrate a 'spatial symphony' rooted in the Japandi philosophy. This design language necessitates a rigorous restraint, blending the functional utility of Scandinavian interiors with the meditative minimalism of Japanese aesthetics. We utilized a deliberate, monochromatic palette of warm woods and beige tones to create an environment where the architecture recedes, elevating the human experience within it.

Materiality and Light

Every surface in this space was selected for its capacity to interact with natural light. The travertine tiles serve as the bedrock of the palette, providing a grounding texture that contrasts with the rhythmic application of fluted glass. These elements allow light to filter through the space, creating shifting patterns of shadow that define the passing of the day. This is particularly evident in how we engineered the lighting—designed not to illuminate, but to reveal the texture of the materials.

Sensory Zoning

We approached the floor plan as a series of distinct volumes. The transition from the high-energy coffee bar to the quiet, banquette-seated perimeter is achieved through subtle shifts in scale and material warmth. The custom joinery functions as a mediator, providing the necessary privacy for introspection without severing the connection to the larger room. This project stands as a testament to our belief that a space is not defined by its walls, but by the memory and emotional resonance it leaves with those who occupy it. It is an exercise in intentionality, where every line is drawn to serve the narrative of the brand.
