Find Stillness Everywhere: Yoga Beyond the Mat
Yoga isn't just a studio practice. For me, it happens wherever I find balance, from forest floors to ocean shores.
The most beautiful things must be felt with the heart. Practicing Ustrasana (Camel Pose) on the beach is a powerful heart-opener, helping to improve lung capacity and encouraging a surrender to feeling over thinking.
Asanas are just a doorway into the deeper aspects of yoga. Practicing Parsva Bakasana (Side Crow) by the pool reminds me that the true essence lies not in the pose itself, but in the inner stillness we cultivate.
Swinging into mindfulness on a beach in Phuket. Using this swing as a prop for an inversion, I connected my breath to the rhythm of the waves, finding my happy place in the warmth of the sand.
When nature lays down a mat of fallen leaves, it's time to flow. Embracing the beauty of autumn, I practiced a headstand, connecting my breath to the earth beneath and the sky above.
How good does yoga make you feel? For me, practicing by the ocean, with the sound of the waves and the sea breeze, brings an unparalleled sense of peace and connection.
Immersing myself in the ocean waves is a form of moving meditation. It's a reminder to surrender, flow, and connect with the powerful, cleansing energy of nature.

About this collection
When I practice in nature, I use whatever is around—a stone bench for backbends or a low branch for support—to deepen my alignment. It is a great reminder that props are everywhere if you know how to use them, which is exactly how we approach our sessions at my Lavelle Road studio. Whether you are on a mat or a forest floor, the focus remains on finding your own sweet spot rather than achieving perfect form.
For me, the practice of asanas is just a doorway into deeper aspects of yoga like self-discipline and mindfulness. When we take our practice outdoors, we learn to connect our breath to the rhythm of the environment, whether that is the sound of ocean waves or the quiet of a forest.
At my Lavelle Road studio in Bengaluru, we carry this same philosophy into our group classes. We use the Iyengar method, which means using props like ropes, blocks, and chairs to ensure that everyone, regardless of age or fitness level, can safely work on their alignment and strength. We focus on:
- Iyengar Yoga: Precision and alignment to build stability.
- Restorative Sessions: Using support for deep relaxation and Yoga Nidra.
- Kids and Teens Programs: Building confidence through movement and play.
- Private Therapeutic Sessions: Tailored plans for injury recovery and specific health needs.
My goal is to create a safe space where you can let go of the pressure to be perfect. There is no judgment here, just a tribe of people learning to move with intention. If you have been looking to start or deepen your practice, let us get on the mat together.
