Student Pottery Showcase: Pieces Made in Our Studio
I am always proud of what walks out of my studio doors. Here is a collection of unique pieces created by participants who started with no experience and walked away with their own handmade stoneware.
Absolutely adorable dessert plates made by a mother-daughter team in my plate painting and glazing workshop. It's so special when people create together.
I'm so proud of the work my students create. This collection shows the variety of styles and techniques they explore, from sculptural forms to marbled candle holders.
Pottery is about giving form to your ideas and finding a moment of calm. These pieces, from colorful plates to textured bowls, are all expressions of that process.
A beautiful lidded jar made by a student in one of my courses. Learning to make jars with lids is a key skill we cover, and the result is always so satisfying.
About Student Showcase
Every piece you see here started as a simple, messy lump of clay. Whether it is a hand-built plate or a wheel-thrown bowl, the smooth glaze finishes are the result of our two-stage firing process. When you join, I do not just teach you the technique; I guide you through the trimming and glazing stages so you leave with something durable and food-safe for your own home.
Pottery is not about being an artist or having a steady hand. It is about the process. Many people walk into my Pali Hill studio saying they cannot draw a straight line, yet they leave with functional, beautiful stoneware.
What You Will Learn
In our classes, we explore a wide range of techniques that allow you to express your own style. You might start with hand-building—using techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab rolling—which is perfect for making plates, mugs, or bowls. For those who want the challenge, the electric potter's wheel offers a completely different rhythm. It is about centering the clay, breathing, and letting the wheel do the work.
The Full Journey
What you see in this showcase is the result of patience. Clay needs to dry, be trimmed, and then undergo two rounds of kiln firing (bisque and glaze). I handle the firing in the studio to ensure that every mug or plate you take home is food-safe, microwave-safe, and built to last. We focus on stoneware clay because it is significantly more durable and chip-resistant than standard earthenware, making your creations practical for everyday use.
Why Join Us
This is a community studio, not an assembly line. Whether you are coming in for a single-day workshop to try out wheel throwing, or joining an 8-session course to develop a deeper practice, the goal is the same: to step away from the noise of Mumbai and get your hands in the mud. If you are looking for a creative escape in Bandra, you will find it here.
The Pottery Lab
I'm Rekha, and I've been playing with clay for over 26 years. My studio in Pali Hill is my green escape, and I love helping people realize they have an artistic side. You don't need skills—just a willingness to get your hands messy and enjoy the process.
