Student Journeys & Pottery Creations
Creativity is a personal journey, not a race for perfection. See the beautiful, whimsical pieces my students have brought to life, many starting as complete beginners in my pottery courses.
This incredible koi pond platter was made by Aarti, one of my beginner students. Her patience and attention to detail are just stunning. It’s a perfect example of how hand-building allows for such imaginative and sculptural work.
Ashna, another beginner, created this wonderfully vibrant planter that looks like a colorful city block. She wasn't afraid to experiment with bold glazes, and her playful energy shines through in this piece.
I just love this quirky, expressive face vase made by a beginner student. It’s so full of personality and charm. This is what happens when you let go of perfection and just have fun with the clay.
How fun is this ice cream sundae jar? A beginner student used the coiling technique to build this sweet, sculptural piece. It’s a testament to the amazing things you can create right from the start.
This tiny, sculpted flask with a snake and turtle lid was made by Stuti in her beginner's course. The level of detail and storytelling in such a small piece is just magical.
A student's hand-built plate with beautiful, fluid swirls. This piece shows a wonderful exploration of texture and form, created during her beginner's course.
This artist's palette, with its chaotic and colorful splatter glaze, perfectly captures the playful spirit of experimentation. It was made by a beginner student finding her style.
A heart-shaped trinket dish with a lovely marbled effect, created using the Nerikomi technique in a beginner's class. It shows a beautiful blend of form and pattern.
This marbled Nerikomi mug with a tiny, delicate handle was also part of a beginner's first set of creations. It’s a wonderful example of learning to combine different techniques.
A square vase with a soft green leaf pattern. This piece was hand-built using slabs of clay, showing how you can create geometric forms and add natural textures.
About Student Journeys & Creations
If you are coming in for your first session, please leave the Pinterest expectations at the door. Here, it is about how the clay feels between your fingers—the wobbles, the thumbprints, and the little imperfections are the best part. Whether it is a hand-built mug or your first time on the wheel, my job is to guide your hands, not create a cookie-cutter result.
At Mitti, we look at pottery as a slow conversation with the earth. It is not about rushing to get a finished piece; it is about understanding the nature of the clay. My students often start by feeling intimidated, but soon find their flow through techniques like slab building, coiling, and Nerikomi.
When you join a session at our Khar studio, you are not just learning a craft—you are stepping into a space designed for community. We intentionally keep our batches small, so whether you are sculpting a whimsical planter or trying your hand at the wheel, I can give you the attention you need to learn.
What you will explore in our workshops:
- Hand-building: Perfect for beginners, this lets you get tactile with the clay. Think coil-built jars or slab-constructed vases.
- Wheel Throwing: The rhythmic, hypnotic part of the process. It takes patience, but there is nothing like that first successful pull.
- Nerikomi: We love working with colored clays to create unique, marble-like patterns that become part of the structure itself.
Most students arrive worried that they do not have an artistic bone in their body, but clay is forgiving. It is a medium that meets you where you are. Whether you are in Mumbai for a one-off experience or looking for a long-term creative outlet, I am here to help you get your hands dirty. No prior experience is needed, just a bit of curiosity and the willingness to let things get a thoda sa (a little) messy.
Mitti Space
I'm Kosha, and at Mitti, I’m just here to guide your hands. We focus on the journey of making, not the outcome, and I love seeing that moment when a student's confidence kicks in. Come sit at the wheel with us—it’s always a good time.
