Bharatanatyam Rangabhivandane and Student Mentorship
I guide aspiring dancers through the sacred journey of their Rangabhivandane, following the authentic Guru-Shishya tradition. Every step is a reflection of the devotion and discipline I learned from my Guru, Sri P. Praveen Kumar.
An invitation to the Rangabhivandane of my student, a culmination of years of her hard work and my Guru's blessings. Mentoring a student for their solo debut is a deeply rewarding responsibility.
A moment of prayerful gratitude from my student's Rangabhivandane. Seeing a disciple complete their first full solo performance is a moment of immense pride and fulfillment for a teacher.
My student performing on stage during her debut. My goal as a mentor is to equip students with strong fundamentals and the confidence to express themselves through the art form.
Here I am performing the Nattuvangam, conducting the recital with rhythmic syllables, for my student's debut. This is a vital part of the live performance experience I provide for my students.
A candid moment on stage during my student's Rangabhivandane. The live musical ensemble is essential for a complete performance, and I ensure my students have this opportunity.
An invitation to 'Nruthya Manjari', the annual showcase for my school, Bharathadyuthi Arts Center. This video shows my students in class, preparing for their big day on stage.
About this collection
Preparing for a Rangabhivandane is a significant undertaking that requires 3 to 6 months of focused, one-on-one training. Beyond just choreography, I guide you through the intricate details of Abhinaya, technical precision, and coordinating with live musicians, ensuring you are fully prepared for the demands of a professional stage debut.
The Rangabhivandane Journey
A solo debut is more than a performance. It is a milestone in a student's life. When I mentor a student for their Rangabhivandane, we begin with a deep dive into the repertoire. My role is to help you move beyond just technical steps to understanding the Sahitya (lyrics) and the mythological context behind each piece.
We typically spend 3 to 6 months in intensive preparation. This includes:
- Technical Corrections: Constant focus on Angashuddhi (body lines) and rhythm.
- Live Ensemble Coordination: I personally conduct the Nattuvangam and manage the coordination with vocalists, flautists, and Mridangam players to ensure the music supports your movement.
- Stage Readiness: We conduct full dress rehearsals and check stage positioning at venues like ADA Rangamandira or Seva Sadan, so you feel at home on the stage when your day arrives.
Annual Showcases: Nruthya Manjari
Beyond individual debuts, I organise 'Nruthya Manjari' annually. This is a platform for my students at Bharathadyuthi Arts Center to perform in front of an audience with live musical support. It serves as an essential stepping stone, helping students overcome stage fright and develop the confidence required for solo performances. Whether you are a beginner looking to understand the basics or an advanced student preparing for your debut, my approach remains grounded in the traditional Chithkala School style. My goal is not just to teach you to dance, but to help you feel the divinity and culture inherent in this art form.
