The Guru-Shishya Parampara: Authentic Bharatanatyam Training
Bharatanatyam is a spiritual journey. My dance is deeply rooted in the Chithkala tradition under my Guru, Sri P. Praveen Kumar, and I am here to pass that lineage on to you.
With my Guru, Sri P. Praveen Kumar. His teachings are the foundation of my dance and my life. I am ever grateful for his belief in me and his constant guidance.
Performing as part of the Chithkala ensemble alongside my Guru. Dancing with him on stage is an invaluable learning experience, deepening my understanding of the art form.
A moment from a duet performance with my Guru, celebrating Ramanavami. Sharing the stage with him is the greatest honor and blessing.
With my Guru and other esteemed artists at the Soorya Festival. Being part of such gatherings is a reminder of the rich community and tradition I am fortunate to belong to.
About this collection
Training under the Chithkala lineage means prioritizing the Thanjavur Bani style. We do not rush through movements. Whether you are a beginner or a senior student, we focus on Angashuddhi (body lines) and the spiritual intent behind every mudra. This approach ensures your dance is as much about discipline as it is about expression.
Our Approach to Tradition
When you step into my studio, you are stepping into a system of learning that respects the pace of the student. In our classes, we do not view dance as a fitness activity or a quick hobby. It is an exploration of the Natyashastra texts combined with rigorous physical training.
What You Will Learn
- Foundations: We dedicate time to the basics of aramandi and footwork. Without these, the rest of the repertoire remains superficial.
- Theory and Meaning: My classes go beyond just movement. We study the Sahitya (lyrics) of the compositions we dance to, ensuring you understand the mythological context of every expression.
- Conditioning: Dancers require strength. Our warm-ups integrate Yoga postures like Surya Namaskar to ensure you have the stamina for long performances.
The Mentorship Difference
For those of you preparing for your Rangabhivandane, I handle the choreography and coordination with the live orchestra myself. This is a significant moment in your life as a dancer, and I provide the focused, one-on-one mentorship required to get you stage-ready. We treat this as a complete devotional offering rather than just a performance.
