Witness the dedication behind every performance. My daily Sadhana sessions are where every adavu and rhythm is refined under the traditional guidance of my Guru.

A rehearsal clip from before a performance, with the energy of live musicians in the room. This is where the dance, music, and rhythm come together before we take the stage.

Rehearsing for a performance in Chennai. Practice is a continuous process of refinement, ensuring that every movement is precise and every expression is authentic.

A glimpse into the rehearsal for 'Venkatesha Shreesha'. Practicing with the full musical ensemble is crucial to achieving perfect synchronization and bringing the choreography to life.

A short clip announcing an upcoming solo margam. Even a simple announcement is an opportunity to be in the dance space, which is my place of peace and focus.

Finding joy in my practice space. A Jatiswaram, which is a pure dance piece, is wonderful for building stamina and finding happiness in the rhythm itself.

About this collection

Practice here is about more than just muscle memory. Whether we are drilling specific adavus in my Naagarabhaavi studio or rehearsing with live musicians, the focus is always on the bhakti behind the movement. If you visit, you will often find me working alongside a live Carnatic ensemble—vocalists and percussionists—because Bharatanatyam is never just a solo act. It is a conversation between the dancer and the rhythm.

Authentic Bharatanatyam requires a disciplined approach to both Nritta (pure dance) and Abhinaya (expression). At Bharathadyuthi, our rehearsal process mirrors the rigorous training of the Chithkala School of Dance.

The Anatomy of a Rehearsal

My studio sessions are structured to build stamina and precision. We begin with mandatory yoga conditioning, such as Surya Namaskar, to prepare the body before moving into the technical aspects of the Margam.

  • Technique: We prioritize Angashuddhi (clean body lines) and deep, stable aramandi positions. I teach students that a movement is incomplete without the corresponding mudra and its mythological context.
  • The Live Ensemble: Dancing to recorded music is fundamentally different from the interaction with live musicians. In my rehearsals, I emphasize the dancer's responsibility to listen to the mridangam and violin. We practice the coordination between footwork (Tala) and the rhythmic syllables (Jathis) to ensure the performance remains dynamic.
  • Sadhana as Prayer: I often share with my students that practice is a form of worship. Whether we are preparing for a public performance or working on individual technical corrections, the intention remains devotional.

If you are looking for Bharatanatyam classes in Bangalore that value the traditional guru-shishya lineage over quick shortcuts, I invite you to join my sessions. Whether you are a beginner focused on your first steps or an advanced student working towards your Rangabhivandane, the commitment remains the same: a focus on authentic technique, consistent practice, and the joy of keeping our culture alive.
