My Movement Journey: Honest Expression and Recovery
Dance is not just steps for me... it is how I talk to myself. This collection holds my experiments, my recovery, and my raw movement, where I learn to trust my body again after an injury.
This was my movement speed back in 2023, before my shoulder dislocation. I'm slowly getting it back and waiting to dance full out again. The journey continues.
A late-night experiment to check how much sudden weight my shoulder is ready to take post-injury. My right side became very weak, but I see a lot of progress.
Just following a trend in my own way. A quick compilation of jumps and poses from various practices, celebrating the joy of movement.
Goa, call me back. Missing these moments of dancing on the beach at sunset. Improvising in nature is one of the most freeing experiences.
About this collection
My right shoulder injury changed how I move, forcing me to slow down and rethink my flow. You won't see high-octane stunts here, but you will see how I adapt, experiment with gravity, and listen to what my body needs today.
When my shoulder dislocated, my world of movement shifted instantly. Suddenly, the high-flying jumps and explosive power I relied on were off the table, and I had to start over. This was not just a physical setback... it became a lesson in patience. I stopped chasing the version of myself that existed before the injury and started learning to work with the body I have right now.
I spent weeks exploring floor work, focusing on ground-level flow where I could control my weight without straining my joints. I brought in elements of contact improvisation, not for a stage, but to understand how to move with my own body's limitations. This is what I teach in my workshops—the art of finding freedom within constraints.
Whether I am practicing on a rooftop or in the studio, the goal remains the same: honesty. I do not believe in perfect choreography. I believe in movement that tells a story, even if that story is about being weak, recovering, and slowly building back up. If you are struggling with a similar path or just want to find a more intuitive way to move, let's connect. I create a safe space for you to explore your own range, whether you are a complete beginner or a dancer looking to reconnect with your practice.
Suraj
I am Suraj. For me, dance is active meditation and a way to talk to my body, not a performance. I bring this same philosophy of raw, honest movement to every session, whether we are working through injury or just trying to find your flow.
