About Contemporary Dance: Foundations & Flow
At Dhurii, we practice on professional sprung wooden flooring, which is essential for protecting your joints during floorwork and barefoot sequences. It makes a significant difference when you are learning to slide, pivot, or fall, letting you focus entirely on your movement and flow instead of the impact on your body.
Our approach to contemporary dance is rooted in somatic exploration and body intelligence. We don't believe in forcing shapes; instead, we help you understand your anatomy, build functional strength, and discover the natural flow of your own body. Our sessions typically begin with 15 minutes of somatic warm-ups to ground the body, followed by 40 minutes of technical drills—focusing on spirals, weight shifts, and connections—before we move into choreography.
Whether you join our 'Foundations & Basics' batch or our 'Dynamic Flow' sessions, you will find a progression that respects your starting point. Beginners dive into learning core principles of floorwork and building confidence, while intermediate dancers focus on more complex sequences and 'Flying Low' techniques. We operate across our studios in Domlur and New Tippasandra, creating a consistent space for you to return to.
Beyond the steps, this is a space for community. When you join a batch, you become part of a group that supports your growth. You gain access to our end-of-month filming sessions where you can document your progress, plus entry into batch-specific groups where we share playlists and movement reflections. If you want to take your training further, you can audition for our annual showcases like FIRA or Mélange, where we bring these pieces to the stage.
