Authentic Dance Improvisation and Movement Flow
Dance is how I speak to my body. Here are moments of improvisation where I let go of plans and just flow. No perfection, just expression.
Just flow. A simple, unplanned improvisation session where the only goal is to move and listen to what the body wants to say.
Woke up and let my body take over. No choreography, no plan, just pure, sleepy-headed improvisation. It's in these unplanned moments that we often find the most honest movement.
From my midnight improvisation series. I find that unplanned movements are often more interesting than planned ones. This was also my first and last time dancing in jeans.
Lost in the moment, found in movement. Another late-night improvisation, letting the body lead the way without overthinking.
The art of movement. As the year ends, I use dance to let go of old memories and make space for new ones. You don't have to be right or wrong, just breathe and move.
Goodbye Part 2. An improvisation on a rooftop under the burning sun. Moving to process the feelings of a magical, challenging month. I always trust the universe and its magic.
Another perspective of my rooftop improvisation, shot with a 360 camera. Saying goodbye to a month of learning, creating, losing, and winning, all through movement.
About this collection
When you work with me, we do not start with rehearsed steps. We start with conditioning and joint preparation to understand your baseline. I focus on how to move safely on the floor, using gravity instead of fighting it. Whether you are dealing with a past injury or are a complete beginner, my goal is to help you listen to your own body and turn your natural range of motion into a unique movement style.
My approach to improvisation is based on the idea that dance is a conversation with the self. It is not about executing a perfect sequence, but about being present in the movement.
How We Approach Movement
I blend techniques from my training at Attakalari and London to help you build a solid foundation. We focus on:
- Gravity and Flow: Using weight shifts and floor work to move fluidly rather than rigidly.
- Spontaneous Creation: Developing the ability to respond to music and your own internal rhythm in the moment.
- Injury-Safe Movement: Having recovered from my own shoulder injury, I emphasize joint health and sustainable movement patterns that you can practice long-term.
What to Expect
Whether you join a themed workshop or a 1-on-1 session, the environment is open and non-judgmental. We explore tools like flow acrobatics and contact improvisation to help you feel confident in your own skin. You do not need to be a professional dancer to start. You just need to be curious.
I offer sessions across various studios in Bangalore, including JP Nagar, HSR Layout, and Cunningham Road, as well as online. If you are ready to stop thinking and start moving, let us find your flow together.
Suraj
I am Suraj. I treat dance as a meditation and a way to talk to myself. My classes are a safe space where we drop the pressure of being perfect and just find our own flow.
