Practicing at 12,500 feet requires a different rhythm. We do not push for peak athletic performance here. Instead, we adapt our pranayama and flow to the thinner air, focusing on mindful breath control that you can carry home to manage daily stress. This is not just a holiday, it is a recalibration of your mind-body connection in one of the quietest places on earth.
Ladakh acts as a mirror for your inner state. When you step into this high-altitude landscape, the silence forces a shift. My retreats here, based at the Bilupa Mountain Lodge in Chushot, are built around this silence. We use the vastness of the Himalayan desert to drop into deeper states of reflection.
The Daily Flow
We start mornings with sunrise Hatha and Vinyasa Krama, usually accompanied by the distant sounds of monastery prayers drifting across the Indus. Because we are at 12,500 feet, we tailor our asana practice to be restorative and meditative rather than high-intensity, ensuring your body acclimatises while your mind settles.
Cultural Immersion & Healing
This experience goes beyond the mat. We integrate local wisdom, including consultations with a Himalayan Amchi (traditional herbal doctor) and private audiences with scholar monks at Thiksey Monastery. You will spend evenings observing the night sky through a telescope or simply watching the migratory birds along the river canals.
