About Oil Pastel Paintings
In our oil pastel sessions, we teach more than just basic colouring. We focus on specific blending tricks, like layering light colours over dark ones and using scratch effects to create textures for things like animal fur, reflections in water, or lamp light. It is hands-on, messy, and designed to help even younger students feel confident about creating depth in their drawings.
Mastering the Medium
Oil pastels are one of our favourite mediums because they are so forgiving and vibrant. Whether you are a total beginner or an experienced artist, this medium allows for bold expression and rich texture. In our weekend classes, we guide students through the fundamentals of colour theory, showing how to transition from simple colouring to creating complex shading and highlights.
What You Will Learn
Our curriculum is divided to suit different skill levels:
- For Kids (Ages 5-10): We focus on grip control, basic shapes, and fun projects like festival-themed art, fruits, and animals. We introduce concepts like light and shadow early on so kids can make their drawings look three-dimensional.
- For Seniors (Ages 11+): We dive deeper into technical application. This includes realistic portraiture, architectural detailing, and mastering tonal values. We also encourage students to experiment with their own unique style.
Why Choose Our Studio?
Learning art should be fun. We keep our studio environment informal with floor seating and low tables to remove the pressure of a traditional classroom. We want students to get messy and enjoy the process. We operate in small batches of 8-12, ensuring every student gets individual feedback on their technique. Whether you join us at our BTM Layout studio or our Sona Vistaas classes, you will find a supportive group of fellow artists.
Beyond the Paper
We don't just stay indoors. Our students often participate in national art competitions, and we provide guidance on topic selection and presentation. From prepping for art exams to just exploring creative hobbies, we are here to help you get the best out of your oil pastels.
KD School of Arts
We started KD School of Art to share the happiness we find in sketching and painting. Our goal is to create a space where kids and adults can get messy, laugh, and master mediums like oil pastels without any pressure. Seeing our students gain confidence and win awards is honestly the best part of our weekend.
