Advanced Art Classes for Teens and Adults
I love watching my students master complex techniques like charcoal shading and watercolor perspective. Here are some of the advanced pieces created by our senior batch, focusing on realism and depth.
An expressive acrylic painting on canvas. This piece shows a powerful contrast between warm and cool colours to create a dramatic sea storm.
This graphite sketch of a temple sculpture is a great example of advanced shading. The student did an amazing job creating a realistic 3D effect.
A beautiful and detailed painting of Lord Ganesha playing a sitar, created by one of my talented students for Ganesh Chaturthi.
This monochrome watercolor of Ganesha is so elegant. The student showed great control and understanding of light and shadow.
This large size Ganesha painting is so confident and colourful. A fantastic piece by one of our senior students using oil pastels.
This detailed charcoal sketch of a hornbill shows advanced skills in texture and proportion. A truly impressive wildlife drawing.
A stunningly realistic still life painting in watercolor. Capturing the transparency of glass and liquid is a difficult skill that this student has mastered.
I love the energy in this abstract oil pastel artwork. The student used bold colours and expressive strokes to create a captivating piece.
These pen and ink character sketches are incredible. The line work is so clean and confident, showing a great understanding of form and movement.
This oil pastel painting of a rainy park at night is so atmospheric. The student did a wonderful job capturing the glowing lights and wet reflections.
About Advanced Artwork
Our advanced sessions move beyond basic drawing, focusing instead on individual project pacing and mentorship. Rather than following a set curriculum, students choose their medium—whether it's charcoal for hyper-realistic portraits or watercolors for cityscapes—and I provide direct critiques to help them refine their composition and aesthetic choices.
For students ready to move past fundamentals, the Senior Advanced Fine Arts program at KD School of Art is designed to build technical mastery and artistic voice. This isn't a one-size-fits-all class. Because every artist has a different focus, I work with each student individually to develop long-term projects.
What We Focus On
- Graphite & Charcoal: We dive deep into tonal values and texturing, teaching students how to create lifelike anatomical studies and hyper-realistic portraits.
- Watercolor Mastery: We move beyond basic washes to explore wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques, essential for capturing the fluidity of landscapes and the transparency of still life objects.
- Pen & Ink: For those interested in intricate work, we cover stippling, hatching, and precise line work to build confidence in form and movement.
How It Works
Classes are held on weekends in small batches of 8 to 12 students. This size allows me to give every person the attention they need, whether they are learning to replicate complex photographs or building a portfolio for school applications. We provide guidance on transitioning to professional-grade materials—moving up from standard supplies to artist-grade brushes, papers, and high-quality charcoal.
We meet at our studio in BTM Layout and occasionally at Sona Vistaas. If you are looking to refine your technique, understand perspective, or simply want a dedicated space to work on challenging personal projects with guidance, come join us for a session.
KD School of Arts
I started KD School of Art to share the joy I find in painting, and I am just as excited as my students when they nail a tough technique. We keep our advanced groups small so I can sit with each student, troubleshoot their shading, and help them bring their unique creative vision to life.
