Therapeutic Yoga for Chronic Health Conditions
Yoga is a science of healing. I design specific, adaptive sequences to help you manage health challenges, recover your mobility, and restore stability in your daily life.
This diagram illustrates the physical symptoms of Parkinson's disease. My therapeutic approach uses targeted asanas and breathwork to help patients regain a sense of control, improve balance, and reduce the muscular rigidity associated with the condition.
In this demonstration of Baddha Konasana, you can see the gentle opening of the hips and groin. This posture is particularly beneficial for soothing sciatica, regulating menstrual cycles, and stimulating the abdominal organs to improve digestive health.
Here I am in Prasarita Padottanasana, a wide-legged forward bend that lengthens the spine and stretches the hamstrings. I often prescribe this asana for clients experiencing mild backache, as it helps to decompress the vertebrae and calm the nervous system.
A strong immune system is the foundation of good health. This seated wide-legged pose helps to stimulate lymphatic flow and reduce stress, which in turn can have a stabilizing effect on the immune system and improve your body's natural defenses.
About Yoga for Specific Health Conditions
Every health journey requires a different approach. Whether you are dealing with chronic back pain, sciatica, or the muscular rigidity associated with Parkinson's, my sessions are entirely customized. I integrate props like chairs, belts, and blocks to ensure you can perform asanas safely regardless of your current range of motion, focusing on the essential connection between your breath and physical recovery.
Our Diagnostic Process
Every program begins with a 75-90 minute diagnostic assessment where I review your medical reports, such as X-rays or doctor notes, and test your current range of motion. This initial phase is essential to understand your unique physiological requirements and create a treatment roadmap tailored to your specific needs.
Adaptive Practice
Safety and efficacy are my priorities. By utilizing props like blocks, chairs, and belts, we make ancient asanas accessible to everyone. This adaptive approach is particularly important for clients managing neurological conditions like Parkinson's, where muscular rigidity needs gentle, sustained manipulation to reconnect the brain and body. For those dealing with chronic sciatica or spinal issues, we focus on decompression and alignment through targeted postures like Prasarita Padottanasana.
Our Methodology
Whether we meet in-person within Ahmedabad or conduct sessions online via Zoom, the focus is on a consistent Nitya Abhyasa (regular practice). We combine therapeutic asanas with Pranayama (breath control) and meditation, which are vital for calming the nervous system and reducing the stress that often exacerbates physical ailments.
A Shared Commitment
Please remember, Swaasthya aapki zimmedari hai (health is your responsibility). My role is to guide your technique, correct your posture, and provide the structure for your recovery, but your consistent daily application is what brings true harmony to the body and mind.
