Adaptive Yoga for Mobility and Strength
Yoga is a science of harmony. Whether you are recovering from an injury or seeking deeper alignment, my adaptive practice uses props to ensure every body can safely explore the path to health.
This image shows how a simple chair can be used to practice a complex twisting and balancing pose like Parivrtta Svarga Dvijasana. Using props makes the benefits of advanced yoga accessible, helping to build strength and flexibility safely.
In this Paschimottanasana, or Seated Forward Bend, I am using yoga blocks to support the stretch. This modification allows for a deeper, more restorative release in the hamstrings and lower back, perfect for those who are still developing their flexibility.
About Adaptive Yoga: Poses for Every Body
I focus heavily on prop usage like chairs and foam blocks, which are essential for those with limited mobility or stiffness. By supporting your alignment this way, we ensure you can perform essential asanas without strain, gradually building your range of motion through safe, consistent practice.
Understanding Adaptive Yoga
Yoga is not about perfection. It is about the connection between body, mind, and spirit. When physical limitations or stiffness exist, props become an extension of the self. Using items like chairs, blocks, and belts allows us to modify complex postures such as Parivrtta Svarga Dvijasana, making them accessible even if you are just beginning your journey or managing chronic pain.
My Therapeutic Approach
I tailor every sequence to the specific ailment, whether it is sciatica, back pain, or the challenges associated with neurological conditions like Parkinson's. The practice focuses on manual muscle manipulation and intentional breathwork to reduce sluggishness in the body and quiet the mind.
- Prop-Assisted Alignment: We use household furniture and professional yoga props to support your weight, allowing the muscles to release tension without the risk of injury.
- Ailment-Specific Sequencing: Each session is designed to address your unique needs, moving from simple movements to deeper release based on your current physical capability.
Practice in Ahmedabad
Whether you join my in-person sessions within Ahmedabad or practice via virtual guidance, the goal remains the same. You learn to listen to your body and honor its current state. Consistent, daily abhyasa (regular practice) is the only way to move from imperfection toward health. If you are ready to begin, we will start by assessing your range of motion and creating a roadmap that respects your body's limits while gently encouraging progress.
