Thoughtful Home Renovations
Renovating isn't just about fixing things up. It is about clearing the noise, finding what actually works, and giving your home a fresh, honest identity that feels completely yours.
This was a renovation project for a returning client. We added bold red accents to the facade to give the home a fresh, modern identity while carefully working around the beautiful, mature trees on the property.
This video gives a quick tour of the renovated home, showing the new red facade elements and how they contrast with the existing structure. Our goal was a budget-conscious transformation that balanced utility with a renewed character.
A close-up of the renovated facade, where the vibrant red window frames and screens peek through the leaves of an existing tree. This shows our approach of integrating new designs with the natural context of the site.
A view from the street shows how the renovated home now sits comfortably in its green surroundings. We streamlined the building's form and used a clean palette to create an inviting and contemporary feel.
About Thoughtful Renovations
When we approach a renovation, we don't just patch things up. We look at the bones of the building. In this project, we worked with a tight budget to clear away the visual noise, simplifying the details and using bold, unexpected colour to give the home a distinct identity while working around the existing structure and trees.
A renovation is really an exercise in subtraction. People often want to add, add, and add, but we find that the most impactful transformations come from deciding what to strip away. In the home featured here, the challenge was working within a tight budget for a returning client who needed a fresh start.
We started by decluttering the space. Architecture is often about what you don't do, and by removing unnecessary, dated elements, we allowed the room to breathe. We simplified the mouldings and introduced a clean, contemporary palette that acts as a canvas for life to happen. The goal wasn't to build something new from scratch but to find the latent potential in what was already there.
Budget consciousness is a reality of most renovation projects in Bangalore, and it forces us to be smarter. Instead of an expensive overhaul, we focused on strategic interventions. We used pops of red on the facade to create a striking contrast against the greenery. It is a simple, honest material choice that completely changes how the house is perceived from the street.
Whether it is civil modifications, such as breaking down non-structural walls to merge a kitchen and dining area, or a complete structural modernization, our approach remains the same: we want to modernize the utilities and layout without losing the character of the home. We replace aging plumbing and wiring, upgrade vintage windows to floor-to-ceiling glass to invite the outdoors in, and prioritize materials like natural stone or cement finishes that age gracefully.
Kamat & Rozario Architecture
I’m Lester, and Smruti’s my partner in this. We don’t see a renovation as just fixing walls, but as stripping back the clutter to let a house breathe again. We love finding that fresh, honest character in existing spaces, often working with a tight budget to make a big impact.
