We believe architecture is about the stories lived inside. It is an honor to have our work recognized by peers and publications, but the real reward is seeing these homes being enjoyed by the families who live in them.

We are thrilled to be featured in 'Architectures of Transition: Emergent Practices in South Asia', a project by Rahul Mehrotra and the Harvard GSD. It's an honor to be included among such talented firms.

Our firm, Kamat & Rozario Architecture, is listed as one of the forty-one emerging practices in this important publication. We are grateful to be part of this discourse on the future of architecture in our region.

We were so proud that our 'Big-Little House' was nominated for the ArchDaily Building of the Year Awards in 2024. This recognition for a project focused on maximizing a small urban plot was incredibly rewarding.

Our 'Screen House' project was also nominated for the ArchDaily Building of the Year Awards in 2024. This project's blend of cultural motifs and climate-responsive design was a particular passion of ours.

A great moment for our team. This video shows us on stage as finalists for the IIA Latitude Design Awards, where our 'Maya House' and 'Triode Residence' projects were both recognized.

It was a pleasure to be invited as a speaker for the IIDA Summit on Architecture & Beyond. I believe architecture is a canvas for human experience, and I enjoyed sharing our firm's perspective.

Thank you to ArchDaily for featuring our 'Screen House' project. It's always a pleasure to see our work shared with a global audience of architecture lovers.

Our 'Big-Little House' was selected for the Volume Zero Hot 100 of 2023. This project's focus on creating large, light-filled volumes on a small plot really resonated.

About Awards & Recognition

While awards like ArchDaily’s Building of the Year or IIA recognitions are lovely, they mostly serve as a quiet validation that our specific design approach—prioritizing natural light, biophilic layouts, and raw, honest materials like exposed concrete—actually resonates with how people want to live today.

When we get recognized for projects like the 'Big-Little House' or our 'Screen House', it feels less like a trophy win and more like a sign that others are starting to care about the same things we do. We see awards as a way to join a wider conversation about the future of architecture in South Asia.

Why our approach works

  • Designing for the climate: Our projects, like the ones featured in the Harvard GSD project 'Architectures of Transition', focus on how a building breathes. It’s not about showy facades; it’s about courtyards that move air and light wells that keep a home bright without overheating it.
  • Honest materials: Whether it is Sadarhalli stone or exposed wire-cut bricks, we choose materials that age gracefully. We like to show the texture of a building rather than hide it behind layers of paint or synthetic finishes.
  • Small plot, big impact: Awards for the 'Big-Little House' confirmed to us that you don't need a massive footprint to create a sense of grandeur. By playing with double-height volumes and integrating gardens directly into the living spaces, we can make compact urban plots feel incredibly spacious.

We are grateful for every nomination and publication, from Volume Zero to The Architect's Diary. It gives us the confidence to keep pushing for design that feels local, sustainable, and deeply connected to the people who inhabit it.

I’m Lester, and Smruti’s my partner here. We don’t really design for awards; we design for the morning breeze, for the dog’s favorite sunlit corner, and for spaces that genuinely breathe. If you're looking for a home that feels less like a sterile project and more like a real, lived-in space, let’s have a conversation.
