Think aerial yoga is just for fun? With me, it is a tool for spinal decompression and building strength. Using silk hammocks to support your body, we work on alignment and flexibility in a way that feels safe and liberating.

A look at our aerial yoga practice in the studio. Students use the silk hammocks and blocks to work on flexibility poses like the splits, making them more accessible and supported.

About Aerial Yoga

Aerial yoga isn't just about hanging upside down. I use these hammocks specifically to help decompress your spine and open up tight hips that traditional floor yoga sometimes misses. It gives you the support you need to hold poses longer without straining your muscles, making deep stretches like splits feel entirely possible.

Many people come to me intimidated by the hammock. They think it requires circus-level strength. Doston, that is not true. My aerial yoga sessions are for everyone, whether you are a beginner looking to improve flexibility or someone dealing with chronic back stiffness.

Why the Hammock?

Gravity is often our enemy when it comes to back pain. By using the silk hammock, we achieve traction. This allows your spine to lengthen, creating space between the vertebrae. It is one of the most effective ways to release the pressure that builds up from sitting at a desk all day.

My Approach to Aerial

  • Spinal Traction: We use the hammock to safely hang, which decompresses the discs and reduces nerve impingement.
  • Prop-Supported Stretching: If you struggle with tight hamstrings or hip flexors, the hammock holds your weight, letting you sink into stretches like the splits without the usual fear of injury.
  • Core Engagement: Every movement in the air requires deep core stability. You will be building strength without even realizing it because you are too focused on the balance and the fun of it.

We practice in my studio at Kailash Health Village in Sector 62, Noida. It is a dedicated space where we focus on precision and safety. You will not just be swinging; you will be learning how to control your breath and movement while suspended. If you have been struggling with regular mat yoga or feel stuck in your practice, this might be exactly what your body needs to break through that plateau.

Namaste, I am Pankaj. I view the aerial hammock not as a playground prop but as an extension of our body to help heal and align. Let us explore how you can find comfort and strength while suspended.
