Mastering advanced asanas like Headstand or Scorpion isn't just about looking flexible. It’s about building a body that supports your mind. Let’s learn the right technique to get there safely.

The Equestrian Pose (Ashwa Sanchalanasana) is a powerful lunge that strengthens the legs, stretches the hips, and improves balance. It's also therapeutic for relieving sciatica pain.

Sarwang Pushti is a dynamic flow that nourishes the entire body. It is excellent for weight loss, strengthening the back muscles, and boosting metabolism.

Headstand (Sirsasana) practice in the studio. Here, students use blocks for support to build confidence and ensure proper neck alignment, making the pose accessible and safe.

Another group of students mastering the headstand. This inversion improves circulation, calms the mind, and builds significant upper body and core strength.

The Scorpion Pose is an advanced inversion and backbend that requires strength and flexibility. I demonstrate a step-by-step variation using a block to make this challenging asana more approachable.

This is a dynamic flow I teach to improve balance and thigh strength. It moves through Downward Dog, High Lunge, and Warrior variations to build stability and power in a fluid sequence.

Practicing Eka Pada Viparita Dandasana in Lodhi Garden. This advanced backbend opens the chest and shoulders while strengthening the arms and legs.

Moving into a variation of the forearm wheel pose. Outdoor practice connects you with nature and adds a different dimension of energy to your asanas.

A full Chakrasana (Wheel Pose) in the park. This pose is incredibly energizing and is a testament to a strong and flexible spine.

About Advanced Poses & Strength Building

Many people think advanced asanas are only for the naturally flexible, but that is where props come in. I use blocks, wall ropes, and chairs to help you find the correct alignment for a Headstand or Wheel Pose without straining your neck or back. We do not force the body to fit a pose; we use these tools to build the stability and strength needed to hold these advanced postures with ease and confidence.

Why Advanced Yoga is a Journey, Not a Race

Realizing a pose like Chakrasana (Wheel Pose) or Sirsasana (Headstand) requires more than just trying hard. It requires a foundation. My sessions focus on the mechanics of the movement—engaging the right core muscles, proper breathing, and understanding your own limits. If you have been struggling with a specific inversion or backbend, we will break it down into smaller, manageable steps.

How We Practice

  • Inversion Training: For poses like the Headstand, we start with wall support and blocks to ensure your neck is protected. Once your strength increases, we remove the support.
  • Backbends with Precision: Whether it is Eka Pada Viparita Dandasana or a full Wheel, I guide you to open the chest and shoulders so the pressure is taken off the lower back.
  • Dynamic Flows: We often move through a sequence like High Lunge into Warrior variations to build the thigh strength and balance necessary for more complex stationary poses.

Common Questions

Do I need to be flexible to start? Not at all. Flexibility is a byproduct of consistent, correct practice. My job is to meet you where your body is today, not where you think it should be.

Are these poses safe? Safety is non-negotiable. I limit my batches to 10-12 students precisely because I need to give each person personal alignment corrections. If your alignment is off, we stop and reset. That is the only way to progress without injury.

Can I practice these at home? I provide a home plan and guide you on how to practice safely on your own, ensuring you know how to warm up and cool down effectively.
