Bringing the Outdoors In: Modern Courtyard Homes
We blur the lines between inside and out. Our designs use internal courtyards and large openings to invite light, air, and greenery into the heart of your home.
A large, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door opens onto a serene private courtyard. The seamless transition from the green oxide floor inside to the outdoor patio extends the living space and invites nature indoors.
An internal courtyard, or 'angan', brings natural light deep into the home through a double-height volume. The textured, precast concrete blocks on the wall create a beautiful pattern as sunlight filters through the slatted screen above.
A concrete staircase is softened by a lush indoor garden planted at its base. This juxtaposition of hard, brutalist forms with soft, living nature is a recurring theme in our work, creating a balanced and earthy environment.
About this collection
When we design these courtyards, we think about them as the lungs of your home. They are not just for show. By placing them strategically, we pull natural light deep into the center of your floor plan and create a constant flow of fresh air, which makes a huge difference in Bengaluru's weather.
In our approach, the transition between interior and exterior is not a hard line, but a gradient. We often use flooring transitions, like shifting from indoor polished oxide to outdoor basalt stone, to visually connect these spaces even when the glass doors are closed.
This is our 'Glocal' philosophy in action. It respects the local climate by promoting passive cooling, while using contemporary materials to maintain a sharp, clean aesthetic. We do not just add a garden; we plan for the entire ecosystem. We integrate drainage systems, design for specific foliage that thrives in partial shade, and ensure your indoor swings or seating areas are placed where the breeze actually hits.
Whether you are working with a compact apartment or a larger site, this method forces us to prioritize floor plans that actually work for you. It means your living and dining areas become naturally ventilated, which helps significantly with humidity and light levels throughout the year. If you are looking for a home that feels open, connected, and grounded in raw materials like concrete and wood, let's look at how we can apply this to your floor plan.
