Spaces That Breathe: Blending Indoors and Nature
We design homes where the walls blur, bringing gardens right into your living room so you never feel cut off from the earth. Sunlight and fresh air are the primary building materials here.
A spiral staircase connects the ground floor garden to the upper terrace, creating a continuous green pathway. The home is wrapped in plants, with creepers and hanging pots that blur the line between the building and the garden.
This view shows the terrace garden nestled beside the home's upper level. The design incorporates planters and green walls along the facade, making the garden an essential element of the architectural experience.
Is it a living room or a room filled with life? With its high, arched windows, exposed brick walls, and views of the surrounding greenery, this space is designed to be a breathable, light-filled family area.
A view looking up at our studio in spring, with bougainvillea blooms framing the clay block facade. This is how we envision our buildings: living structures that change with the seasons and are adorned by nature.
Our studio as seen from the street, nestled behind a curtain of lush green trees. We design buildings to coexist with their natural environment, creating a sense of tranquility and privacy.
Peeking through palm fronds at the studio's facade. The layers of greenery and the building's architecture create a rich, tropical feel, demonstrating how plants can be used to soften and enhance architectural forms.
This corner garden, or 'Scoop Scape', brings nature into a cozy nook of the home. The light filtering through the ceiling creates playful patterns on the floor, highlighting the custom-designed wash basin and indoor plants.
About Spaces That Breathe: Blending Indoors and Nature
We often use internal courtyards and skylights to pull the outdoors in, even in dense urban plots. It is not just about aesthetics; these features create natural ventilation paths that regulate temperature and light throughout the day, so your home stays comfortable without relying entirely on artificial cooling.
Building a home in a city like Bengaluru usually means fighting for space, but we prefer to invite nature in. Our approach to indoor-outdoor living goes beyond just adding a balcony or a large window. We treat the garden and the courtyard as rooms that simply happen to have no roof.
The Anatomy of a Breathing Home
When we plan these spaces, we focus on three specific elements:
- The Scoop Scape: By creating recessed garden corners, we bring greenery to the center of your floor plan. This provides privacy and a visual anchor that connects your living areas.
- Light-Ventilation Modeling: We calculate sun paths to place slits and skylights exactly where they need to be. This choreographs the light, creating moving patterns of shadow on your walls while venting hot air out through the top of the house.
- Material Breathing: We lean on clay blocks, lime plaster, and oxide flooring. These aren't just for the 'earthy' look; they are hygroscopic materials that absorb and release moisture, helping to maintain a stable, comfortable climate inside the house regardless of the season.
Why This Matters for Your Project
We avoid rigid, box-like structures. Instead, we use organic geometry to ensure the transition from your living room to your terrace feels like a natural step, not a door-crossing. Whether you have a small plot or a large site, the goal is to make sure that at any given moment, you are only a few feet away from a plant or a patch of sunlight.
This isn't about luxury finishes; it is about creating a home that functions like a living organism, evolving with the time of day and the changing weather.
