Architectural Design Details and Process
A deeper look at the materials, structural experiments, and conceptual sketches that define our practice beyond the finished buildings.
An exterior view of the office block at the Ajax factory campus, showcasing the clean, modernist lines and the integration of the building with the surrounding manicured landscape.
A detail of the interconnected circulation at the Ajax campus, where open-air walkways and staircases create a dynamic and transparent environment, encouraging movement and interaction between different departments.
A view across a paved courtyard between two buildings at the Ajax factory. The design creates a series of "pause points" and open spaces that break up the mass of the built forms and integrate the campus seamlessly.
A duplicate view of the Nairy Residence dining room, emphasizing the seamless flow to the outdoor garden, a core principle in my residential designs.
A duplicate view of the vibrant living area in the Interlocking House, showing the textural terracotta pot ceiling and the open connection to the staircase and upper levels.
A duplicate high-angle view of the Interlocking House living space, illustrating the effectiveness of the double-height void in creating a sense of volume and connection.
A duplicate image of the Domus India magazine feature on my studio.

About Additional Work & Details
Great architecture often hides in the small connections—the way steel meets concrete, or how a staircase is suspended. This section holds the technical details, material studies, and conceptual diagrams that we document for every project. When you are planning your own space, it is these practical, unpolished details that determine whether a design will stand the test of time or just look good on paper.
Our Approach to Detail
We document our process because we believe the integrity of a building lies in its assembly. Whether it is the terracotta dish pot filler slabs in a residence or the way we integrate MEP lines within exposed concrete structures, these elements are what make a space functional and alive.
Material Honesty
In our studio, we practice what we call visceral pragmatism. If concrete is used, we leave it in its rogue form to show the craftsmanship. If we use steel, we ensure it looks like steel. These details in our gallery—such as the Ajax factory’s circulation paths or the interlocking residential volumes—illustrate our commitment to keeping things real. We avoid faking finishes or hiding the structure behind false ceilings.
From Sketch to Structure
Many of these images come from our conceptual phase. Before we pour concrete, we sketch. We iterate. We study light, air, and volume.
- Site-Specific Logic: We analyze contours and site orientation to ensure that green spaces and built forms integrate seamlessly.
- Structural Expression: You will notice our fascination with cantilevers, tapered portals, and suspended galleries. These are not just aesthetic choices; they are engineered solutions for column-free spaces.
- Documentation: We often share these glimpses of our work—as seen in features like Domus India—to show that good design is a messy, evolving, and ultimately rewarding journey.
If you are interested in an architectural approach that values the raw nature of materials and rigorous structural planning, these details will give you a clear sense of how we work.
Funktion Design
We are Funktion Design, based here in Bangalore. We don't just build structures; we obsess over the connections, the light, and the way materials feel under your hand. If you appreciate architecture that values raw, honest craftsmanship over polished perfection, we should talk.
