Architectural Design of Tata Trusts Small Animal Hospital

Designing for veterinary care requires a distinct approach to zoning and stress reduction—unlike human hospitals, our layout had to accommodate diverse patient sizes and movement patterns while ensuring critical diagnostics like MRI and CT imaging remained accessible. We strategically placed the facility in Mahalaxmi to maximize central access, minimizing critical travel time for pets during emergencies.

Designing the Tata Trusts Small Animal Hospital was less about building a structure and more about creating a comprehensive ecosystem for veterinary health.

Strategic Location & Planning

Sited in Mahalaxmi, we prioritized central accessibility, acknowledging that in veterinary emergencies, distance is a critical variable. The five-story facility functions as a high-density clinical machine, where spatial planning is dictated by the urgency of care.

Clinical Infrastructure

We engineered the flow to segregate sterile surgery zones—including four dedicated operation theatres for orthopaedic and soft tissue work—from high-traffic outpatient and emergency areas to prevent cross-contamination.

Advanced Diagnostics

The integration of advanced diagnostics like MRI, CT, and pathology required specific structural vibration isolation and RF shielding, techniques typically reserved for human oncology centers. We tailored the layout for specialized units including dental, ophthalmology, and dermatology, ensuring that medical gases and power systems support complex procedures.

Patient-Centric Zones

We integrated in-patient wards, from general care to High Dependency Units, keeping the comfort of the animal and the ease of the pet parent at the center of the spatial planning. This project stands as a benchmark for India’s growing needs in specialized animal infrastructure.
