We move away from the cold, clinical aesthetic of modern hospitals. Our approach focuses on psychological comfort, natural light, and design that encourages well-being.

About this collection

We believe a hospital should be a place of calm, not anxiety. At the JSW Sanjeevani Hospital, we replaced standard air-conditioned waiting rooms with an open, naturally ventilated veranda. By incorporating wide corridors with built-in seating and murals of local Gond art, we created an environment that feels less like an institution and more like a welcoming community space.

Designing for healthcare requires a shift in perspective. We view these buildings as critical pieces of infrastructure that must facilitate emotional recovery alongside medical treatment. Our process begins by questioning the standard clinical layout. Instead of sterile, enclosed blocks, we design for the movement of people and the flow of air.

Our Approach to Healthcare Design

  • Natural Ventilation and Light: We prioritize passive cooling and cross-ventilation, reducing the reliance on constant air conditioning. By using deep verandas and large windows, we ensure that light enters the building, connecting patients to the outside environment.
  • Human-Centric Planning: We design circulation areas like corridors and staircases to be social spaces. These are not just functional paths but areas for rest and conversation, which are essential for the mental well-being of both patients and their families.
  • Integration of Local Culture: A building must feel rooted in its place. At JSW Sanjeevani, integrating Gond art helped dissolve the institutional barrier, making the hospital a familiar and approachable destination for the local community.
  • Future-Proofing: Every layout is designed with flexibility. We ensure that administrative zones, wards, and laboratories can adapt to the changing needs of the institution over time without compromising the structural integrity or the user experience.

Healthcare architecture is not about luxury. It is about dignity and providing an atmosphere where people feel cared for from the moment they walk through the door.

For thirty years, we have explored how buildings shape our experiences. When designing healthcare facilities, we strip away the sterile language of traditional institutions to create spaces that breathe, allowing nature and community to assist in the healing process.
