About Instrumental Jugalbandi & Collaborations
A successful jugalbandi is not about competing; it is about listening. When I perform with a flutist, violinist, or sitarist, my goal is to provide a rhythmic foundation that supports their melody without overpowering it. Whether we are playing a classic Raga Bageshree or a spontaneous fusion set, I focus on the delicate balance between my tabla’s bols and their instrument’s tone. If you are planning an event, let’s discuss the specific mood you want, whether it is a meditative house baithak or an upbeat corporate fusion set.
Collaborating with other instrumentalists brings a unique energy to any event. It is a dialogue where, for a few hours, we create a soundscape that exists only in that moment.
My Approach to Collaboration
I do not treat accompaniment as a background task. Whether I am playing for a professional concert at a venue like Akashwani Bhawan or a casual, soulful jam session, I adapt my style to the lead artist.
- Classical Jugalbandi: Here, we stay rooted in the Raga. We explore the Vilambit and Drut sections, ensuring the Taals align perfectly with the soloist’s improvisation. It is a disciplined, respectful exchange.
- Fusion & Semi-Classical: In these settings, especially for private parties or corporate events, I incorporate modern rhythm patterns while keeping the soul of the classical tradition intact. It allows for more freedom and audience engagement.
Technical Readiness
I come prepared for all setups. My package includes:
- Professional Tuning: I ensure my tabla sets are tuned precisely to the scale of the lead instrument or vocalist.
- Gear: I bring my own performance cushions (gaddi) and stability rings, so you do not need to worry about stage logistics.
- Sound: I am comfortable working with banquet hall systems and contact microphones.
If you have a specific artist in mind or a theme for your event, please reach out. We can discuss how to blend our sounds to create the right atmosphere for your guests.
Divyanshu Kumar
Namaste, I am Divyanshu. For me, music is a journey, and every jugalbandi is a new conversation I get to have on stage. I believe the tabla has a voice of its own, and when it meets the melody of a flute or the strings of a sitar, something magical happens. I am grateful to share these musical dialogues with you.
