About Tabla Solo Recitals

A solo recital is an intimate conversation between the artist and the audience. When I perform, I dedicate at least 60 minutes before the concert to tuning my tabla to the specific acoustics of the venue, ensuring the nuances of the Delhi and Farukhabad Gharanas ring true. Whether it is a complex Kaida or a traditional Gat, my goal is to keep the audience engaged through both rhythmic performance and the verbal recitation, or Padhant, of the compositions.

Performing a solo tabla recital requires more than just technical skill; it demands a deep understanding of the lineage and history of the instrument. My repertoire is rooted in the Delhi and Farukhabad Gharanas, styles that allow me to explore a wide range of emotions and textures through the drum.

When you book a solo recital, you are inviting a full musical journey. I focus on presenting a balanced programme that includes traditional compositions like Peshkar, Kaida, Rela, and Chakradars. I believe in making the classical format accessible; during my performances, I often explain the structures and the Padhant (vocal recitation) of the taals, which helps the audience connect with the rhythmic patterns on a deeper level.

Beyond the performance itself, I treat the technical setup with the same care as the music. From frequency balancing for the microphones to ensuring my instruments are climate-acclimated, every detail is managed to provide the most authentic sound possible. Whether it is a formal concert in a large auditorium or an intimate 'baithak' in a private home, the spirit of the music remains the same—a constant dedication to the rhythm. If you have a specific raga or time-cycle preference for your event, I am always happy to discuss how we can tailor the recital to suit the atmosphere of your gathering.
