A look into my world of dance, where I blend traditional Bharatanatyam with storytelling, puppetry, and the pure joy of performance.

This moment of flight captures the pure bliss I feel when I dance. For me, choreography is about creating these moments of abandon, where the body, mind, and soul are one. This is a glimpse into the dynamic energy I bring to my Bharatanatyam productions.

Here is a short clip from my solo production, 'Shringara Sharanagati'. I am portraying a gopika, playfully telling a small lie to her friend so she can sneak away to meet Krishna. Crafting these small, relatable human moments through abhinaya is the soul of my choreography.

This is a moment from 'Sutradhari Vaidarbhi', a piece where I bring together two art forms I grew up with: Bharatanatyam and Bombeyaata, or string puppetry. Here, as Rukmini, I share the stage with Krishna, brought to life by the strings. This fusion of dance and puppetry is a special service I offer for a truly unique performance.

This is a raw and unfiltered look into my practice. From my basement to a quiet studio, I spend hours exploring movement, refining old choreographies, and finding new stories to tell. This is where the 'maja' or pure joy of the process happens, long before the stage lights come on.

About this collection

Every choreography I create begins with a period of silence and observation, whether I am building a solo thematic piece or a group production. I do not just teach steps. I work with you to find the Sthayi Bhava, the core emotion of the story, mapping out facial expressions and intricate hand gestures so your performance becomes a true conversation with the audience.

I believe choreography is a dialogue between the dancer and the story. My process is deeply rooted in the Natyashastra, utilizing karanas and disciplined azhutham to give every movement a grounded, sculptural quality. When we work together, we go beyond simple steps. For solo arangetram pieces or competitions, I focus on detailed Sahitya (lyrics) analysis, ensuring that your interpretation of mythological texts like the Srimad Bhagavatam feels authentic and emotionally resonant.

Coming from a family of puppeteers, I often incorporate Bombeyaata (traditional string puppetry) elements for those seeking an out-of-the-box theatrical experience. Whether it is training a group of 12 for synchronized geometric formations or directing a 60-minute thematic production, my approach remains collaborative. I provide recorded video guides for your practice, supervise rehearsals to ensure clean lines (Angashuddhi), and offer consultation on aesthetics like lighting and costume. My studio at Mandala Cultural Centre is my creative hub, but I am happy to travel across Bengaluru and India for your projects. Let us create something that feels less like a performance and more like an offering.

I am a disciple of my guru, Sri P. Praveen Kumar, and I view every performance as an act of bhakti. My work is defined by the stories I tell and the simple, everyday moments I capture through dance, whether through solo performances or intricate puppetry fusion.
