Bharatanatyam is my language. From solo recitals to full-scale productions, I focus on the storytelling, rhythm, and the subtle expressions that make a performance truly connect with the audience.

This pose from my production 'Nagamandala' captures the essence of using Bharatanatyam to tell epic, mythological stories. It's a moment where dance transcends steps and becomes a visual narrative, blending powerful physicality with ancient lore.

A glimpse of a traditional TANA Varnam in Behag. For me, solo performances are a deep dive into the core of Bharatanatyam, focusing on the intricate rhythms (talam) and the nuanced expressions (abhinaya) that form the soul of the art.

A dynamic moment from 'Abha', a production I choreographed and performed with my collaborators Parshwanath Upadhye and Shruti Gopal. Group choreography is about creating a visual sync, where each dancer's energy contributes to a larger, unified story.

The view from my position as a choreographer. Leading a group of dedicated students is one of the most fulfilling parts of my work. It's about passing on the tradition and shaping a collective energy on stage.

This is a clip from 'ATAH: connecting the dots', a duet performance. The choreography here is built on the percussive syllables of dance, showing how rhythm and movement are woven together to create a high-energy dialogue between the performers.

A moment of quiet intensity from 'Nagamandala', where light and shadow play a crucial role in storytelling. I believe the entire stage feel, including lighting, is essential to creating the right mood and drawing the audience into the narrative.

A proud moment watching my student Akshadha during her Arangetram. Guiding a dancer to their debut performance is a special journey, involving custom choreography and intensive training to prepare them for the stage.

In rehearsal, this is where the foundation is built. It's a space for exploration, precision, and collaboration, working with fellow artists and the live orchestra to ensure the music and dance are perfectly in sync before we ever face an audience.

This poster is for 'Mitra: The Colours of Love', a production I directed for my student. It shows how I help conceptualize new themes, even contemporary ones, within the framework of classical Bharatanatyam.

A close-up moment from a performance. Abhinaya, or expression, is the heart of storytelling in dance. It's about conveying complex emotions and narratives through subtle gestures and facial expressions, connecting with the audience on a personal level.

About Featured

When I choreograph or perform, I focus on the connection between the live music—the violin, flute, and mridangam—and the dancer. Whether we are planning a solo piece for an arangetram or a group production, we start by ensuring the rhythmic structure and emotional depth are in total sync before we hit the stage.
