Authentic Bharatanatyam Performances and Theatrical Productions
A look into my world of dance, where tradition meets modern theatrical storytelling. This collection captures the energy of my solo recitals and the intensity of my group productions.
A powerful moment from my production 'SUTÃ', where we use dramatic lighting to explore the deep bond between a father and daughter. This is storytelling through dance.
The energy of 'ATAH', a duet I perform with Adithya PV. We use smoke and light to create a dynamic atmosphere on stage, telling a story of connection.
An expressive moment from a solo performance of 'ATAH'. This is where I connect directly with the audience, sharing the story through intricate expressions and gestures.
A scene from 'ĀBHA', our retelling of the Ramayana. This trio performance with Shruti Gopal and Adithya PV is a blend of individual expression and synchronized group choreography.
A glimpse into the pure joy of a solo Bharatanatyam recital. This is from my performance of the Saraswati Tillana at the Madras Music Academy, a piece full of intricate footwork and rhythm.
The dramatic storytelling of 'Naga Mandala'. We use light and shadow to create a world of mystery and intensity, with three dancers weaving a single narrative.
A moment of perfect synchronicity from 'Raag Raagini', my collaborative duet blending the styles of Bharatanatyam and Kathak. This jump captures the energy of two distinct art forms meeting.
About this collection
When you book a performance, you aren't just getting me on stage. You are getting a full production team—from a 5-piece live musical ensemble to dedicated lighting directors who craft the mood for every scene. Whether it is an intimate solo or a grand ensemble piece, we handle the technical heavy lifting so the focus stays entirely on the storytelling.
My approach to dance is built on three pillars: nritya, kalike, and karma. In this gallery, you will see that philosophy in action. Whether it is a traditional Margam solo recital or the dramatic retelling of the Ramayana in ĀBHA, my focus remains on storytelling that feels alive.
For solo recitals, it is just me, the audience, and a live orchestra. We strip back the distractions to explore intricate rhythms and deep emotion. For larger group works like Naga Mandala or Sutā, we lean into theatre. We use haze, shadows, and specific lighting cues to create a mood that feels like a play, not just a dance set.
If you are looking to host a performance, remember that we do not do recorded tracks. Every show, regardless of scale, features a professional Carnatic vocalist and instrumentalists on mridangam, violin, or flute. This is not just a preference; it is how we ensure the music breathes with the dancer. We travel across India and internationally, adapting our technical requirements to the venue, whether it is an intimate studio or a large proscenium stage.
Parshwanath Upadhye
I am Parshwanath. I believe in making art with fire and heart, whether I am dancing a solo or leading my Punyah Dance Company. I do not like shortcuts; I prefer the sweat, the live orchestra, and the process of building a story from the ground up.
