About Martial Arts & Self-Defense Training
Why We Do What We Do
Martial arts at our academy goes way beyond just fighting. I always say, 'Tharkappukkalai enbathu suvasathin ozhukkam' (Self-defense is the discipline of breathing). For us, it's about confidence, discipline, and standing tall. With 20+ years teaching, I've seen how training builds courage and changes lives.
What Happens in Class
We start every session with fitness routines - push-ups, stretching, body conditioning - to get everyone warmed up. After that, we jump into Kung Fu basics: stances, forms, pad work, and partner drills. I keep things direct. Expect shouts of 'One! Two! Next!' throughout the session.
As you progress, we introduce Praying Mantis martial arts techniques, famous for their unique grabs and strikes. The atmosphere is strict but supportive – we work as a team.
Who Can Join
Classes fit all ages and skill levels. Martial arts for kids is a big part of what we do, and honestly, some of their natural talent blows my mind. Women's self-defense training is close to my heart; it's all about finding your power and building confidence. Adults, whether chasing fitness or a new skill, always find their spot here.
Progress and Going Further
We use a belt grading system, with ceremonies to mark your achievements - those moments are pure joy for both me and the students. For anyone wanting more, we offer weapons training (Bo Staff, swords, sticks) and competition prep. Some students have gone on to win state and national tournaments.
This place is not just a class - it's a family. The focus is always on your growth, both in and out of the ring.

My Story
We are Core Power Kung Fu Academy. Been around for 20 years, started out on Mamallapuram beach. Discipline runs in our blood – my brother’s a cop, I’m here coaching. This place is family, not just an academy. Watching students get their belts or win tournaments, pure joy. We do ‘Kootaanchoru’ (community meal), plant trees, keep it real. Martial arts for us? It’s about character, not just fighting. Shaping futures, facing fears, walking straight. That’s our vibe.
