About Self-Defense & Weapons Training
Why I Teach Self-Defense
For me, karate is more than just fighting. I believe in building strong minds and healthy bodies. I always remind my students, "aarogyana kapadikolli" (take care of your health). Discipline and respect are at the heart of every class. I want everyone here to become not just better fighters, but better people.
What You’ll Learn
- Solid basics: stances, blocks, punches, and kicks
- Kata (set forms) to build focus and muscle memory
- Kumite (controlled sparring) to see how it all works in real situations
- Practical unarmed defense classes for day-to-day safety
- Traditional bo staff lessons and nunchaku training for beginners, with drills that challenge your precision (like breaking a coconut on a student’s head—yes, really!)
Who Can Join
Anyone. Men, women, kids—doesn’t matter if you’re a total beginner or already know a bit. We’ve got different groups for kids and adults, and we always start from your level.
How We Train
Training is serious, but always safe. We start and finish with a bow. During sparring, protective gear is a must. Sometimes we train outdoors for fresh air and adaptability. Safety first, always.
Our Community
My students are like namma makkalu (our children). We celebrate every win together—belts, competitions, even birthdays. It’s a real family vibe here, and everyone grows stronger together.

Ashoka Martial Arts Academy
My Story
We’re Ashoka Martial Arts Academy, but honestly, it feels more like home than a school. You’ll see us together - students, me, sometimes my daughter Prarthana (she’s a karate champ, proud dad moment!) - training, playing drums, celebrating wins and losses. We travel, we compete, we learn. Sometimes I take a break, shave my head, go spiritual. For us, it’s all about balance - tough training, real fun, and growing together.
My Work
Martial Arts & Karate Training - We teach Karate, self-defense, Nunchaku, Bo Staff classes, and prep for competitions at all levels.
Training Style - Discipline first, but we keep it patient. 'Nidhanakke kandro' (slowly, my dears) - focus and humility matter.
Who Can Join - Kids, adults, boys, girls - everyone’s welcome. Safe, encouraging space. Regular karate belt exams.
Academy Life - We’re a big family - registered, training outdoors or in the dojo, celebrating with drums and dance after competitions.
