About From Our Kiln: Handcrafted Ceramics
Since every piece I make is handmade and goes through a slow kiln firing process, custom orders or shop updates typically take about three weeks to be ready. This waiting period ensures that the glazing and firing are done right, giving you a durable, food-safe piece that is built to last in your daily routine.
My work at Clay Explore is rooted in the philosophy of Maati Putr, or being crafted by the Earth. Whether I am throwing a set of mugs on the wheel or slab-building a platter, the goal is always to create functional art that feels good in your hands. I primarily work with stoneware clay, which offers the durability needed for the daily rituals of morning chai or evening meals.
The Process Behind the Pieces
Every item you see here travels a long path before it reaches your home. It starts with wedging the raw clay, followed by the actual forming, trimming, and the delicate process of surface decoration. I often use techniques like Sgraffito, where I carve through layers of slip to reveal the clay body underneath, or intricate hand-painting to bring nature-inspired motifs like lotuses and fish to life.
Custom Orders for Your Space
Beyond my regular shop collections, I frequently collaborate with cafes, restaurants, and individuals looking for specific tableware. If you are a business owner in Mumbai looking for unique, branded ceramic plates or mugs, I can tailor the glaze and form to match your aesthetic. Because I run a small studio in Prabhadevi, I can provide a level of personal oversight that ensures your order meets the exact shape and weight you need.
Caring for Your Ceramics
While these pieces are designed for daily use, they appreciate a little extra care. I recommend hand-washing your ceramics to maintain the integrity of the glaze over time. If you have any questions about specific pieces, such as the firing temperature or the food safety of a particular glaze, feel free to reach out directly. I am always happy to explain the nuances of the kiln.
Clay Explore
I am Yashashri, the hands behind Clay Explore. In my studio right opposite the Siddhivinayak Temple, I spend my days turning raw clay into pieces you can actually use. Whether you are looking for a special mug or a custom set for your cafe, I am here to help you find that perfect, tactile connection.
