Creative Yoga Workouts with Props for Better Alignment
Yoga is not just mats and poses. At my Shalimar Bagh studio, we use stability balls, yoga wheels, and blocks to deepen stretches, target specific muscle groups, and bring some fun back into your routine. Har Har Mahadev.
Using a yoga wheel to open up the back and improve spinal flexibility. Props like these, and the stability ball, help us access deeper stretches safely.
In our classes, we use props like belts to assist with stretching. This helps improve flexibility for everyone, regardless of their current level, ensuring a safe and effective stretch.
Here, we are using the wall for support to practice advanced push-ups, which build incredible upper body strength. We also use stability balls for deep backbends and relaxation.
In my classes, we focus on building a strong core to support a healthy body. Here, we are using yoga blocks to intensify the workout and effectively target the lower abdominal muscles for weight loss.
We love using stability balls in our workouts. They add an element of fun and challenge, helping to improve balance and engage the core while toning the entire body.
About Creative Workouts with Props
Many of us struggle with deep backbends or balancing poses because of tight muscles or past injuries. When we use props like yoga wheels or stability balls, we aren't just making it easier; we are safely guiding the body into deeper alignment. These tools help open up the chest and spine, making sure your practice actually helps your body instead of straining it further.
Props are often misunderstood as only being for beginners, but in my experience at Aura Yog Centre, they are the key to unlocking advanced results.
Why we use props in class
- Yoga Wheels: Perfect for opening up the thoracic spine and counteracting the effects of sitting at a desk all day. They give you the support you need to ease into backbends without fear.
- Stability Balls: These are my favorite for core engagement. They force your muscles to balance, which builds stability and tone in ways that a flat mat simply cannot.
- Yoga Belts: If you can't reach your toes or your hamstrings feel like steel, a belt acts as an extension of your arm. It lets you hold the pose long enough to actually see progress.
- Blocks: These are essential for grounding. They bring the floor closer to you, ensuring your spine stays straight during standing poses, which is crucial for safety.
Everything we do in these sessions is designed to be practical. Whether you are recovering from a back ache or just want to feel stronger, using these tools allows you to push your limits while staying injury-free. My goal is always 'Pehla sukh nirogi kaya' (the first happiness is a healthy body), and props are the most effective way to help you get there.
