The wheel is a special place to unwind. Whether you are curious about the mechanics of clay or just need a mindful escape from the city, our sessions in HRBR Layout are designed for you to slow down and create.

There's nothing quite like the feeling of spinning clay on the potter's wheel. It’s a meditative and rewarding process, and yes, you can absolutely do it in your favorite outfit before lunch!

Take a deep breath and let the wheel do the work. This video captures the focus and calm that comes with learning to throw pottery, a truly mindful experience for anyone looking to de-stress.

It's never too late to learn a new skill. I was so inspired by this retired Dean who not only learned pottery but also built his own tabletop wheel to better understand the mechanics.

With a little guidance and a lot of confidence, this participant created a beautiful tall form on the wheel during a fundraiser event. Her smile says it all!

Trimming is a crucial step where the pot's final shape is defined. The beautiful ribbons of clay that fly off the wheel are a sign that the clay is at the perfect stage of dryness for carving.

A peek behind the studio doors at a piece being painted. After a pot is created on the wheel and fired once, you can add your own personality with underglaze painting.

We offer a range of pottery courses designed to meet you where you are. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking for studio space to practice, there's an option for you.

About The Potter's Wheel Experience

You do not need to be an artist to start here. My sessions are centered on the process as much as the result, so if you are curious about centering, wedging, or just want to feel the clay between your fingers for the first time, you are in the right place. We keep groups small, which means you get actual hands-on guidance to troubleshoot why your walls might be wobbling or how to pull them higher.

Why the Wheel?

There is a distinct, rhythmic calm to wheel throwing that you just do not get with hand-building. It is meditative, but it also requires patience and, truthfully, a bit of getting messy. When you sign up for a session at the studio in HRBR Layout, we do not just hand you a lump of clay and wish you luck.

What to Expect

We walk you through the fundamentals: preparing the clay (wedging), getting it perfectly centered on the wheel head, and then the delicate dance of pulling up the walls to form a vessel. It can be frustrating when the clay collapses—we have all been there—but that is part of the learning. My role is to help you understand the mechanics so you can eventually shape a bowl, a cup, or a vase that you feel proud of.

Practical Details

  • Course Structure: We offer single-session trials for those who want to dip their toes in, and structured 6-session courses for those who want to master the craft.
  • Materials: Clay, tools, and aprons are provided. You just bring yourself.
  • Post-Session: Once you create your piece, it goes through a drying process, followed by the first bisque firing in our kiln. This usually takes about 3 to 4 weeks. The final piece will have a natural, matte ceramic finish.

Whether you are joining for a team-building event or a solo weekend creative break, the studio vibe is more of a hangout than a classroom. Come ready to learn, and do not worry about making the perfect pot on your first try.

I am Swathi, and I started this studio because I believe clay is for everyone, not just the naturally gifted. We focus on the therapeutic side of pottery in our HRBR Layout space, making sure that every bowl or cup you spin is a reflection of your own pace.
