Why Conditioning Matters for Powerlifters
Many athletes focus exclusively on the big three—Squat, Bench, and Deadlift—neglecting the foundation that supports them: work capacity. True powerlifting performance is built on a base of functional strength. When your conditioning is lacking, your recovery between sets drops, and your ability to maintain technique under heavy loads suffers.
My approach to conditioning is rooted in practical, strongman-style training. We don't do endless cardio on a treadmill. We flip 650kg tyres and perform rope climbs. These aren't just for show; they force your core to stabilize under load, improve your grip strength, and build the endurance required to survive an all-day competition.
