Yoga Off the Mat: Finding Balance in Daily Life
Yoga is more than shapes on a mat; it is a way to live better. Here, I share the thoughts and small shifts that help us stay consistent, calm, and grounded even when life gets heavy.
A live talk about maintaining and scaling up your practice. You don't have to give 100% in one day, you have to give 1% for 100 days to become a long-term practitioner.
When students ask when their headstand will come... my reaction. Patience, yaar, time lagenga (it will take time).
Happy Guru Purnima. Before you become a good teacher, you must be a good student. And before that, you must be a good human. This is the foundation of everything.
I don't get bored of teaching. I started teaching to run my house, and now I see how our teaching helps other houses run. I believe in small steps, not rushing. Simple life mast hey.
Your practice is working even if you don't see physical results. Maybe your sleep is better, or you handle anger better. See both sides of the coin.
The four pillars of asana practice: Mobility, Flexibility, Strength, and Awareness. It's not just about being flexible.
It won't happen in one day, but one day it will happen. I believe in giving 1% for 100 days. Go slow, you will glow.
About this collection
You do not need to give 100% every single day to see real change. I tell my students that giving just 1% for 100 days builds a sustainable practice that actually stays with you. If you are tired of the 'all or nothing' approach and want to build a routine that fits your actual schedule, let us chat about finding a pace that works for you.
Many people approach yoga like a race, trying to master advanced inversions or perfect poses within a few weeks. The truth is much simpler: yoga is a maintenance practice for life. My approach focuses on four distinct pillars that make your time on the mat count: Mobility, Flexibility, Strength, and Awareness.
The Maintenance Practitioner Mindset
It is normal to have days where you feel tight or heavy. Instead of forcing yourself, you learn to be a 'maintenance practitioner.' Monday to Friday, we keep the momentum. When you have a holiday or extra time, that is when you scale up. This way, you do not feel frustrated when life gets busy or when a pose does not happen immediately. My goal is to help you build a practice that fits your lifestyle, not the other way around.
Why the 1% Rule Matters
I don't believe in तूफानी (intense) bursts of effort that lead to burnout. I believe in small, daily actions. Whether it is a 15-minute mobility drill or a full Ashtanga flow, showing up for yourself daily changes how you handle stress, sleep, and even anger. Your asana should be like a coconut: strong from the outside, but light from the inside. We work on active flexibility, not just pushing your body to its limits.
Whether you are joining from home via Zoom or stepping into my Andheri West or Malad West studios, the focus remains the same. We are not here to compare progress or show off. We are here to develop the focus, physical strength, and mental clarity that helps you navigate the world off the mat. If you want to build a sustainable practice that makes your daily life feel a little lighter, I am here to guide you.
