Behind the Mat: Real Life and Yoga Philosophy
Yoga isn't just about perfect poses on a studio floor. It’s a journey I share with my family, my community, and even my backyard. Come see the real, messy, and grounded side of my practice.
The Art of Letting Go, or 'Jaane do'. Here I am practicing Kapalbhati with my grandfather. If you can't handle yourself, how will you handle the world? Learning to let go is the first step.
Grandpa and me, butterfly free! Practicing Baddha Konasana together. This pose is wonderful for all ages, improving hip flexibility and boosting circulation. He is 82 and my biggest role model.
Practicing Kapalbhati pranayama with my Babaji. This practice helps reduce stress and brings better mental clarity. It's a blessing to share these moments with him.
Yoga in flow, with my camera in full 'jugaad' mode. My bag and shoes made a perfect desi tripod for this shot! This is the reality behind the reels.
Green vibes, good tunes, and grateful moods. Heading out for an early morning yoga session as the sun rises. There's nothing like starting the day connected to nature.
A quiet moment of reflection in the park, surrounded by a carpet of yellow flowers. Nature is the ultimate healer and my favorite place to recharge.
A silhouette of Natarajasana, the Lord of the Dance pose, framed by a historic archway. Yoga allows you to find beauty and expression in every shape.
Finding my balance with Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) in this beautiful natural frame. Like a tree, yoga teaches us to be rooted yet reach for the sky.
A side lunge variation in the serene environment of Lodhi Garden. The blend of history and nature makes this one of my favorite places to practice.
A high lunge with a heart-opening backbend. Practicing outdoors connects you to the vastness of the sky and the grounding energy of the earth.
About Behind the Mat: My Life & Philosophy
You might see polished poses in yoga magazines, but my practice often happens in local parks with nothing but a pair of shoes serving as a tripod. Whether I am flowing alongside my 82-year-old grandfather or working through a tough day, I believe yoga is about adapting to life as it happens, not just following a rigid rulebook.
For me, the mat is a place of honesty. When I say 'Jahan himmat khatm hoti hai, wahan se yoga shuru hota hai' (Where courage ends, yoga begins), I really mean it. My practice isn't about looking perfect or having expensive equipment. It is about the connection between my mind and body.
Why the 'Jugaad' approach matters
I often share the behind-the-scenes reality of my shoots because I want you to know that yoga is accessible. If I can find my balance using a bag and shoes as a tripod, or practice pranayama in a park surrounded by nature, so can you. My goal is to strip away the intimidation factor. We don't need a high-end studio to start the work; we just need consistency and a bit of faith—or what I like to call shraddha.
The family foundation
Practicing with my grandfather is my greatest teacher. Seeing him find flexibility and peace through Baddha Konasana (Butterfly Pose) at 82 proves that age is just a number. It is these simple, authentic moments that inform how I teach. When we work together, I don't just give you a sequence of asanas. I look at where you are in your life, your constraints, and your rhythm. Whether you are a total beginner or looking to refine your technique, we build a practice that feels like it belongs in your life, not a chore you have to complete.
Deeksha Tripathi
I’m Deeksha, and for me, yoga is a family affair that starts with my dad and grandfather. I keep my practice real, honest, and filled with a bit of 'jugaad'—because yoga should fit your life, not the other way around. Let’s find your flow together, on your terms.
